What If Batman Had a New Tv show?

How would you like to see it done?

I personally would love an hour long serious hard boiled mystery.
I'd like to see many of Batman's obscure villains. In between the Classic villains
No Bat armor. Something closer to Batman dead end. Also not go to overboard with the gadgets keep it simple.
No Robin during the first season.
No campy stuff I want my Batman played serious

I pitched WB television a gritty, comic book style, Batman series five years ago, in the style of Batman Dead End-- Muscular guy in a cloth suit. My idea was to do different famous Batman comics (Dark Knight Returns, Long Halloween, Gotham by Gaslight, Year One, Killing Joke, etc...) as 2 to 4 part miniseries, as a weekly TV series. They seemed uninterested, saying that they felt it wouldn't be popular.

The way TV is now they would make it so stupid and off the wall. They can't make good tv, or atleast maybe good tv doesn't sell anymore.Your ideas sound great, but after they get the frou frou sponsers,Bruce will have to work in a coffee shop and have a live in male lover driving an import car to the Pottery Barn inbetween defending justice.Because he'll be politically correct and it won't be polite for him to fight crime, they will sign up for group counciling now.But thats just what I'm thinking they would do to it

Suits are clueless....you proved That Batman could be done right. They'd rather have a turdy Clark in smallville who won't go into a suit than a real hardcore version. Shame someone who actually cares for the character and would have done him right got turned down.....

Given the fact that you really can't compete with the movie franchise for serious high stakes drama, I would rather a TV series be a throwback to the 66 series. Fun for the kids, and enough humour and story to keep the adults watching... which I guess pretty much describes Brave and Bold right now.

Maybe 5 years ago it would not have worked, but with the rating success that the JSA/Smallville movie was, who knows.

Remember, Birds of Prey did not work even while Smallville was a success early on, and maybe they had that bad taste in their mouth when you pitched your idea.

But it seems that they are getting more and more open to using "other" DC characters on TV... and now with their New Wave books, maybe the idea of a hard boiled young Batman ala Year One might be something they'll consider now.

I say, try again! Cause I want to see that show.

I think Birds of Prey could still work today.

                  Agreed.
I've had quite enough of "realistic", grim and gritty superheroes. Everything that made them great and made them icons has been stripped away. I'm all for having more adult, more serious Batman stories...Ever read The Ultimate Evil? VERY disturbing Batman story and very well written. However, I want to escape when I watch sci fi and superheroes. I want fun, adventure, awe....not CSI or whatever.

Am I to presume that C-Monster made Batman Dead End? Wow! I enjoyed that a great deal.

With the success of the Direct to DVD Animated properties, maybe it will get to a point where we can seen a live action adaptation of those storylines at a fraction of the cost of the big movie franchise. Sin City and 300 showed how they could make these adaptations at a reasonable budget.

I think Gotham By Gaslight in particularl would fit that "greenscreen" aesthetic. It would be great to see Mike Mignola's art come to live action life in that manner.

Mine too. I bought the GN the week it came out, not really knowing much about it. LOVED it.
In fact, I think I'll dig it out and reread it. Been since I first bought since I read it.

But you are forgetting that Batman year one 1939 Batman's world was grim and Gritty and not campy at all. The generation that was raised on those first comics were depression era kids who were raised on Hard boiled tough talking GUN shooting heroes...

Campy Batman came along later on........as a matter of fact by the 60's Batman was watered down and on the verge of cancelation.....it wasn't until he was bought back to his Dark gritty roots that he got popular again.
