While I agree Lex should be on the bottom of the next movie's villian candidates, if they do have to use him, I hope hes the silver age comic version, not a Hackman/Spacey clone. Mean as hell mad scientist (not "just" a super genius complete with a battle suit! Hellbent on destroying Superman!

I actually wouldnt mind seeing Ultra-Humanite in the film, evolving(ala brain transfers) from bald guy to hot chick, to wacky monkey throughout the film..or maybe in the background and set up for the sequel.

Brainiac would be neat. Maybe they could go completely in a new direction for the films and do a Mongul/Warworld storyline?

Superman Returns is a good movie for what it is. The plane rescue sequence is fantastic. But it was the wrong movie to make, no doubt about it. Superman: The Movie is my all-time favorite motion picture, but even I think Singer overdid the love letter to Reeve and Donner.

Do what Brian said. Start out with the characters everyone knows, new casting, good plot, good villain (NO LEX!), and have Supes go cosmic and fight some bad guys. Hell, bring in Darkseid. Just do it. Make it huge.

Routh did a good job, especially considering that he not only had to play the role of Superman well (no easy feat, I'm looking at you Dean Cain) but he also had to play Reeve's Superman. A thankless job living up to that benchmark, especially posthumously.

Even though I didn't mind Superman Returns, Singer painted himself in a bit of a corner with the kid, Lois being with Captain boring etc.

Singer could have made a killer sequel but it came with a lot of baggage that I didn't care about.

Rebooting Superman is pretty easy, people will accept that the people look different, just avoid origins, tell a good story and maybe have superman fight a guy. Why is that last part so damned difficult, if there is anybody who can have a plausible and absolutely amazing action sequence it's Superman.

I'll miss Routh too, I feel like he got the shaft, my friend just finished working with him on a movie called Scott Pilgrim that he says is going to be a big hit. However, (and I can't believe I'm saying this) PLEASE NO MORE LUTHOR.

SUPERMAN RETURNS was a dang shame. I thought it was a brilliant movie---
pound for pound my favorite superhero movie of all of them except
maybe the first two Spidey movies...problem was, with the super-kid plot
it put the possiblity of a sequel set in that "universe" at huge jeopardy
by painting the Superman character into a "father" corner.

I liked that reboot/sequel movie so much that ideally, I'd want a sequel that
either started with the death of the child or started with the idea that the
kid was a "dream"...of COURSE that's not gonna happen...WB is gonna
wanna reboot this TOTALLY and I can't blame them one bit.

As far as "who" I'd like to do it...yeah I'd like Singer to give it another shot...
but, of course THAT ain't gonna happen because, again, they are gonna wanna distance themselves as far as possible from SUPERMAN RETURNS.

I'm gonna miss Routh as SUPERMAN...but what's even worse for me is the loss
of Spacey as Luthor. I know most of you guys are sick of Luthor in the movies but i feel Superman is weaker without Lex at least lurking
in the SUPES movies, just like I thought the Nolan Bats series couldn't go too
long without a glimpse of THE JOKER.

I'm going to be pretty psyched to see a new Supes movie no matter which
way they go with it. Keep me informed guys!

If it won't be a follow-up to Superman Returns, like it says in the article, this might actually work. Nolan revived the Batman franchise by starting all over again, like none of the other movies ever existed, that should work for Superman too.
But I'm more excited to hear about a third Batman movie

Supes needs to be big and bright, they can darken up the villains all they want. Brainiac has a lot of potential to be a real freak, see Patrick Stewart as Locutus for inspiration (and hell possible casting). If they follow Nolan's blueprint, the main baddie won't show till the second movie. It'd be nice to see the full blown evil scientist Luthor insted of the idiot evil business man we have been treated to so far in the movies.

Agreed...I don't want Superman portrayed as "dark".That's not Supes style...he's the big blue Boyscout.

Oh goody, as if Singer's Superman wasn't bad enough (He did good with XMen, remember?)

Now I have to sit back and worry with a Nolan Superman? Everyone forget the atrocity that almost came to be when the LAST Batman guy wanted to do Superman? Tim Burton...

Ah! You mean share the profits. That would be the date where the Siegel's get their slice of the pie. Right behind that is the Shuster estate a few more years down the road.

DC needs to get ready to back that money truck.

^^^ Yeah, not sure of the date, but that's part of the Siegel family settlement. As far as Nolan's involvement I hope he gets Superman like he gets Bats. They shouldn't both be portrayed the same way.

Why would WB let the rights to Superman go? Only WB can make DC Superhero movies/tv shows/cartoons.

Something to think about... if the Copyright act hadn't been extended, Superman would go into public domain in 2013. It's only a matter of time though, unless they can figure out how to keep extending it indefinitely. For most of us, I believe that we will see Mickey and co enter public domain within our remaining lifespans.

Check it out! I knew WB wouldn't let the rights to Superman go. And if anybody deserves a shot at Supes...it's Chris Nolan!! Although...I would assume he would produce it...not direct.
