Yeah. That's the big problem with any sort of continuance: there's nothing left to say. Even if you did prequels with the old Minutemen, or pre-Act Owlman et al, it's gonna seem like more of the same. I think a lot of Watchmen's impact was the time it came out. The super fans had never seen anything like that and it made an impact. You're NOT gonna do that again with the series, since so many books that followed appropriated so much from it.
But yeah, it would sell 'cos there are significant numbers of fandom that'll buy anything with the name of their fave slapped on. And yeah, I think a sequel is inevitable. (I'm actually QUITE surprised that it hasn't been done already.)
