So... can anyone here imagine any circumstance where they would purchase a sequel, prequel and/or spinoff of Watchmen?

Perhaps if Hell did freeze over and Alan Moore was writing it?

If Dave Gibbons were writing and/or drawing it?

If one of Moore's trusted protoge's or collaborators were involved? (ie Leah Moore, Neil Gaiman, Rick Vietch)

If the creative team were Geoff Johns and Jim Lee?

If it was written and drawn by Rob Liefeld?

If Rorschach came back as a Black Lantern?

If Sentry came along and tore Dr Manhatten in half?

I have those! I did appreciate having additional background material for the Watchmen characters. Love the little lead figures as well. Can't remember if that stuff was vetted/sanctioned by Moore, but Gibbons did do additional illustrations didn't he?

What the movie did do was create a giant commercial for the Graphic Novel with great success... they sold bucketloads of a two decade old comic book. Which is understandable why there are rumblings of possible sequels/prequels/spinoffs in comic form. Whether or not this is something the audience will embrace or not remains to be seen. Dark Knight 2 was critically panned from a great many folks, but made lots of $$$ still.

Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and they will leave well enough alone!

I would like a full version book of "Under the Hood" written by Moore. What he wrote about the original Nite Owl was really good left me wanting more.

I wouldn't mind a prequel comic series set in the 40's. Looks like Morrison is doing a mash up of Watchmen and the Charlton Earth for his Multiverse series.

Rich Johnston over at Bleeding Cool News is saying that DiDio is really pushing this project now that Paul Levitz is gone. I can see them doing a WW2 series or a Night Owl/Rorschach World's Finest type series.

This is a BAD idea at best, it will only serve to dilute the original story, but as demonstrated REPEATEDLY during his regime, Dan Didio DOES NOT CARE WHAT HE DOES to the DC characters AT ALL. This WILL be happening, I'd bet money on it, and probably announced sometime this year, maybe at San Diego?

Plus, I can see that any creator who works on it would be risking some ostracizing from the fan community for doing it...but I'm also sure there are more than a few creators out there who would think themselves more than capable of a Watchmen 2, especially for the wads of cash DC would be throwing out there.

We all know that the book would sell, big time, regardless of opinion over whether it should even exist. I could see somebody like Howard Chaykin or Jim Starlin attempting it- attempting, NOT succeeding.
