I'd like to see the Beast revert back to the old George Perez version....I hate the cat-like thing that Morrison came up with.....

Given how Marvel usually operates, I was kind of surprised that they didn't make The Beast look like Kelsey Grammar in prosthetics as the third movie was coming out. Although I guess at that point the leather movie look had already run it's course and Joss Whedon and John Cassady got them all back into spandex.

Darick Robertson has mentioned what a nightmare it was to launch the new Wolverine title with Rucka. Their Logan was a squat and feral looking guy and apparently Marvel wanted something that looked more like Hugh Jackman.

Hopefully this will mean an end to Spidey and Wolverine on the Avengers. Luke Cage and Spider-Woman were good additions to the Avengers.

If you miss old school Cage, I believe Dwayne McDuffie's Buck Wild, Mercenary Man has joined the DC stable with the rest of the Milestone characters.

Perhaps he can join the Justice League.

Go read Icon #13, it's really funny.

That look did not originate with Jim Lee. It may havve been Gil kane that designed the fuzzy look beast.

Just checked, Tom Sutton drew Amazing Adventures 11. Gil Kane did the cover

Me too. Perez was so expressive with The Beast's body language and really brought out the playful side of the character so well. Loved his interaction with Wonder Man.

As dynamic as Jim Lee's Beast was, I think the fundamental problem with that run is the fact that you have both Feral Beast and Feral Wolverine on the same team. As different as their characters are, visually in the scene you always have that crouching/pounce of both characters echoing each other on the page.

I think Beast always worked better with more Simian movement as Perez did with him... always hanging upside-down or swinging from things, using his feet.

Grant Morrison offered an interesting solution to that by differentiating Beast as more Cat-like and cumbersome than Wolverine, but at the end of the day I really don't think it worked that well and I'm really surprised that Whedon, Ellis and Fraction and kept that direction. Beast should actually be more graceful and relaxed in his movement than Wolverine.

....AND they both had the same head, coloured differently.

And then you have an additional problem of Dark Beast from Age of Apocalypse running around still and I've yet to really see a visual solution from any artist that I feel really works that doesn't come off as kind of hokey Mirror Mirror... EVIL Beast has earrings and dreads!
