    Dark Avengers

Is anybody else picking this title up? I've just finished reading #13 and thouroughly enjoyed it. It revolves around the Sentry's origins and is a very well done story. It's been one of my favourite books since it started.

The art alone is a great excuse for picking it up; Mike Deodato Jr's work is nothing short of outstanding, my jaw dropped a little more with each page! It sort of reminds me of Neal Adams' work in places.

Great book...ironically it's the best Avengers title out there and it's not even the real Avengers. And surprisingly, it's written by the same guy that writes the crappy "New Avengers", Brian Bendis. Unfortunately this title is going bye-bye after "Siege".

Given that it's one of Marvel's best sellers, I'm wondering what new #1 they might be coming up to replace it... a Masters of Evil ongoing? Not sure that they would be folding this back into Thunderbolts where most of this group came from.

Something akin to DC's Suicide Squad perhaps? It looks like Norman is getting taken out early, so he might not actually be getting quite the final come-uppance we are expecting.

Meanwhile Doom is running around quite a few titles time month.

In what format would folks like to see the Dark Avengers characters continue? Or is it better that they go out like this, while the title is on top?

I'm more concerned with Bendis scripting the Avengers yet AGAIN....Isn't it time to pull this guy off the franchise?

Not when he's still pulling in the numbers with his name attached to titles with "Avengers" in it. It's all about the $$$.

It appears they are launching his Avengers with yet another new #1, which of course we all know will eventually revert to legacy numbering as soon as they hit an Anniversary number. I'm guessing #600.

It's a shame it's going after Siege, it will be missed! I've just been reading about the Heroic Age and another Avengers #1. Does anybody know the lowdown on this? The artice states:

"Marvel Comics has announced that a new series featuring the Avengers will kick off its Heroic Age.

The current Marvel Universe will end following the conclusion of the Siege story arc. According to the publisher, Avengers will serve as a core title during the new status quo".

Does this mean they are going to re-number everything or just Avengers? It's not too clear.

No. Just ending the big Dark Reign event and current batch of Avengers titles (New, Mighty, Dark and Initiative) and starting a new #1 with a new line-up centred around the Big Three of Iron Man, Captain America and Thor. Guessing that there will be a few more #1's launching to replace the other Avengers titles.

You can't really say that they were canceling those titles since that implies lagging sales and those Avengers titles are still at the top of the sales charts. Bendis is still in the drivers seat and no doubt there will be a bump in sales with new #1's.

^ I'm sorry, I know having the name "Bendis" on an Avengers book probably does bring in the numbers but I think his work has been spotty.....hit and miss....more miss lately. Dark Avengers is the only good Avengers book in a long time and it doesn't feature "real" Avengers.

Like an idiot, I've been reading "New Avengers" since day one and I really don't know why I've hung around as long as I have. Maybe it's the hit and miss I mentioned....so much "miss" but then he cranks out a "hit" every now and again so I keep reading.

His New Avengers have left a lot to be desired...the whole Spidey and Wolverine on the team has bugged me since day one, and I haven't been a big fan of Luke Cage or Mockingbird or Hawkeye as Ronin on the team either. The only real character he seems to get right and makes for a good addition to the team is Spider-Woman.

Sounds like #1 will be a good jumping off point for you!

For me, Luke Cage and Spiderman are the new Beast and Wonderman! I hope they stick around in the new line-up. It's Wolverine that I've kind of found superfluous, but I guess there is not a lot a writer can do given the fact that he's running around a half dozen other titles (which is why his storyline and continuity have become a greater mess in recent years).

^ They should have used Secret Invasion to reveal that the reason Wolverine seems to be all over is a Skrull had impersonated him in some instances....

I'm actually astounded that they didn't take that opportunity to reveal at least ONE of the multiple Wolverines was a Skrull.

At last count he was in Astonishing, Uncanny, New Avengers, X-Force, Wolverine, and Wolverine Origins... or is that the book that Dakin took over recently? The title switches and numbering leaves me confused sometimes.

What I would love is for them to swap out Wolverine for The Beast. The Beast left the X-Men in a huff... here is hoping he's heading over to the Avengers? Or at the very least to hang out with Wonderman for another mini.
