I used to have a Hologram Card of Cosmic Spiderman when I was a kid. I also remember Spider-Phoenix. I have that issue. It was terrible if I recall.

Wonder if Frankencastle will fall in with these lame gimmicks or if it will be the one to stick.

I think it's safe to say that FrankenCastle will go the way of Black Like Me Punisher and Female-Punisher and Heaven's Avenger Punisher. Although given the love of monsters, I think it might be more fondly remembered... on par with Marvel Zombies as a fad (or Cap Wolf, as dumb as it is, you often do see it refered to with cheesy affection).

I think the trend that is less fondly remembered is the Armoured Costume gimmick of the nineties. Spiderman, Daredevil, Captain America and a few others all pulled out some form of enhanced suit.

I dunno, this is the most original offbeat Punisher tangent of them all.

Don't underestimate the Love of Monsters! He's no more offbeat than Frankenberry or Young Frankenstein or Doc Frankenstein or Frank N Furter from Rocky Horror.

Regular Gun Toting Punisher will be back in no time, but I think FrankenCastle will be more fondly remembered than Robo-Punisher.

Sounds like 1950's Mort Weisenger Superman comics doesn't it?

I've also got a fondness for Future Apocalyptic Mad Max Punisher, but mostly 'cause of the beautiful beautiful moody Richard Corben art.

In the meantime, I'm enjoying the Kingpin arc over in Punisher Max.

Over in Spider-fandom, is there much love for Man-Spider or Six Armed Spidey? I guess they are the Monster Equivalents kinda sorta.

Punisher is such a one dimensional character, basically Batman with the no killing/no guns rule thrown out, that its got to be really hard to come up with anything new for him. ANd forget about building up any kind of rogue's gallery. He kills them all.

spider hulk is pretty lame as well, i think they even made an action figure at one point.

anybody remember when Superman was herald of Galactus ?

anybody going to post a pic of frankencastle?

If you take apart Garth Ennis' run on Punisher (and most any other Superhero title he writes), the most interesting storylines are the ones that actually shift the focus away from him and onto a more relatable supporti"ng character. Detective Soap filled that role in much of the Marvel Knights series along with his partner (the competent lesbian detective), and in Born we got the POV of the soldier that served under him.

Even in the current Punisher Max, it's really the Kingpin's "Godfather Part 2" story more than Frank's one-note (kill 'em al).

The other solution I've noticed that some writers will use is to make the people The Punisher is protecting the focus.

I think Marvel has realized Punisher's lack of a Rogue's Gallery which seems to be why he's taking on 'Super Villains once again in the Marvel U, and using him like they did with Scourge to take out Z-listers like Jack O'Lantern and Jester.

As it is, his only rogues are Jigsaw, Barracuda (a recent addition), and Kingpin. Although Ennis recently brought back Ma Barruci and The Elite (or seemed to).

Not just Marvel, but here is the gimmick that was already wearing thin before it was driven in to the ground.

Mark my words, we are going to be drowning in all the leftover Barack Obama comics cluttering up the cheap bins in the next few yetars.

How about killing(and bringing back)Jean Grey over, and over again.

I LOVE the Character...I just wish they'd stop killing her.

                              Hmmmm....

Where to begin? I think the first one that bothered me was "Secret Wars."

                              >I just wish they'd stop killing her

....although I almost think it's become a schtick instead of a gimmick. Spidey sticks to walls, "HULK SMASH!!!!" Iron Man drinks, Jean Grey dies and comes back....
