Steve Rogers Still Isn't Captain America Again.

As spoiled by the Dark Avengers Annual, we have confirmation that Bucky Wields the Shield.

I know many folks not reading the current Brubaker run will be disappointed to know that Steve let's Bucky hang onto the Shield for now (and they actually come up with some pretty great motivations for both characters).

I'm actually glad that Bucky gets to be Cap for a while longer. He's really shaping up to be a very compelling and complex character and I think it's akin to watching Wally grow into the role of the Flash. The Bucky-Cap/Black Widow team is great as well.

I'm still sticking to my theory that Steve is going to be the new head of SHIELD/HAMMER. I'm always surprised they never did a What If about this. I always thought Steve would be well suited to the job. On a variation on Hawkeye Clint Barton leading the Thunderbolts, I would love to see what happens when Steve is given a team of Dark Avengers to lead, particularly if you keep most of that current line-up including Norman.

Cool, that means Dick will still be Batman, too.

Steve Rogers isn't going to be head of anything but Captain America as soon as the new smell of Bucky Cap wears off. Especially since they are doing a Captain America movie. Bucky's not sticking around. Mark my words.

No one is disputing that Steve will eventually be Cap again. Keep in mind the Cap movie is scheduled for 2011 isn't it? Which puts it at least a year and a half away.

And it's not like Steve Rogers isn't running around as Cap in the Ultimate books either (or Marvel Adventures or Super Squad or Toys R Us).

I have seen just about every Captain America comic book thanks to the modern age of technology. This storyline with Steve Rogers has been done twice now. He usually sits out for about a year as someone else while some other guy wears the Cap outfit.

My point being, has he ever been head of SHIELD while the other guys is running around in that outfit? Has that guy running around in that outfit been his chosen heir and successor, Bucky? There are some really interesting character driven possibilities here in terms of story, and I'm really enjoying what's been written so far much better than Johnny Walker/USAgent or the Nomad periods.

Or is it all a ruse from the creative team to plant all these suggestions, and he'll be back as Cap following Seige and Bucky's smoking corpse?

That to me would be the cop-out given the fact that we've seen that ending before again and again, whether it's Ben Reilley Spidey or Johnny Walker Cap or Red Norville Thor.

Morrison's been hinting at that as well, since he's enjoying writing Dick as Batman som much.

I got a feeling Dc isn't going to do what everyone expects by putting Bruce back in the tights.

Funny, someone's buying it. Batman and Robin is a top ten seller for DC.

^ Sales are doing well on "Batman and Robin" I think....not so sure on the rest of the Bat-line. "Detective Comics" with Batwoman also seems to be popular but she's supposed to be spun-off into her own title, so who knows where that leaves 'Tec and who will star in the book. I think the initial interest on "Batgirl" and "Red Robin" seems to be growing thin.

Maybe Detective is being opened up for Bruce. Maybe a Matches Malone strip?

BTW, just looked, and Batman and Robin is usually in the top 3 every month. Batman is up there, too at 12 or so.
