    Why I left comics :-(

I hung in with Marvel .

But then they started messing with the numbering. Relauching etc.

Books got so expensive I started thinking the FORBIDDEN " I 'll wait for the Graphic Novel" If we all did that would'nt comics collapse?

They got a rating system and titles I enjoyed as a kid I couldnt recommend to kids I was working with.

Then the content. That was it.

I liked Ultimates because it started out to be a title where everyone was a jerk.

    BUT

Punisher became x rated gore, language and nudity and he killed Micro

Hulk became a perverse rambling X Files on and on till I didnt care thing. ( I did pick it up for his time in outer space that was great stuff comic book fun in a Hulk vein)

But he comes back goes sadistic and some yahoo they just made up a few years ago beats him? ANd now he's red? I'm afraid to ask why.

In political protest they killed off Captain America.

They broke the RULE. The one rule. Bucky.

So when I get the chance I try to fill in the gaps of my EC reprint collection.

Yeah, I am almost there right now. Seems to be less bang for the buck and all is fueled by the mighty event. I it wasn't for a few bright spots like Hellboy, Goon, Batman and Robin, The Anchor, and Atomic Robo I'd probably quit new stuff.

Which EC reprint collection do you collect?

I had a love/hate relationship with the new colour Gemstone EC archives and now they've stopped making them.

The DC Mad Archives are great, but they seem to take forever to come out.

Was it Gemstone? Hmm theyre upstairs. Anyway it was the collection that went through and printed each issue in order of everything EC did. ( Except Moongirl, as far as I know thats thier only Superhero and was never doen???)

I have to hand it to them they did it. Kind of like what Doc Mego is achiving . The guy printed every issue Crypt, Haunt , Weird Sci, Two fisted tales, PANIC, M.D.

I collected a few Avengers, FF and Perez Titans in the mid-80s in college.., between dating new girlfriends. That was the last new stuff I really hung on to. Other than some Perez Avengers 7-8 years ago, nothing, nada..

I have NO desire whatsoever to collect pretty much anything after 1974. I'm diving into the early 60s VF+ Fantastic Four issues now on eBay auctions..

Ah, so you're collecting the reprints in comic book form - those are cool, Gemstone released huge b&w hardcover volumes in the 80s and recently started collecting colour hardcover versions in their EC Archives series that was put on hold due to money problems.

One of the reasons I hardly ever buy actual comics anymore is that I hate storing them - I find collections like these much more practical.

I've been trying to collect all the Kirby/Lee FFs for years now - it's the only book I guess I actually still collect.

No but it it would certainly trim the fat in the comics world. If only GN's were issued it would force a more coherent narrative and art style. The reality is the GN's are the story lines that are good from the series runs (except for some reason DC will put out every issue of a good seller in GN format a year later (I guess to cut out the ebay resell market who knows) see Flash and Green lantern especially

Russ Cochran reprinted all the EC's.
                    I have them all.
oops...except for a few issues of one of the war ones. I think Two-Fisted Tales. I didn't care for that one but I did get Frontline Combat.

The DC universe isn't much better, there is way too much blood and gore for my tastes currently.

I know you're paying lots for the vintage value.. but they're SO COOL to finally hold them in your hands..!!!

I've going for the BIG couple now.. #48 and #49 with Galactus and Silver Surfer.. I'll pay a few hundred for 'em in F+/VF condition, but it'll be so worth it.

I'm going on Two years now without buying much.......I only will by a trade if it's worth it or stuff for my kids......the price of a single comic now is ridiculous....

                            I agree.

I did read Justice and Identity Crisis. A bit disturbing. Some good stuff in there but a bit too much like CSI and those types of shows. Some fun parts but mostly depressing.

Stated are most of the reasons I left comics as well. They were getting rediculous with gimmicks and plotlines where you'd be lost if you didn't buy every title. The price is also a huge factor. For what they charge for a single comic (about 5 bucks CDN), I can buy vintage so that's where I spend all of my comic money when I make a trip to the comic shop.

I have been collecting the EC reprints in HC form and I want to start collecting Creepy & Eerie HC reprints.

I loved Marvel & DC comics as a child but I hate the new numbering systems now and how they bleed over into other books making you try to collect them all.

If you want to read something new try Y: The Last Man. I loved it and they can be found in Graphic Novel form (10 books) for a reasonable amount on eBay. If you prefer HC I believe they are also being published as I type this. Before reading Y, I had not picked up a comic book since the 1980's.
