    Supergirl Teaster Trailer

Full disclosure, I've never read the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow series the film is based on, but I generally dislike Tom King's rather blatant disregard for previous characterization of other people's creations just to explore trauma. Having said that, I think this looks fun. Very Guardians of the Galaxy-like, which isn't a bad thing at all.

    Gunn just used the title.
Kara Zor-El celebrates her 23rd birthday by travelling across the galaxy with her dog Krypto. Along the way, she meets the young Ruthye Marye Knoll and encounters a tragedy that leads her on a "murderous quest for revenge"

Since Lobo was never in the comic and Super-Horse is not in it there are some changes for Tom King story.

      More than just the title-
the tone is based on the mini-series
the thematic underpinnings of the story are based on the mini-series
the personality of Kara is based on the mini-series
the basic plot arc and structure is based on the mini-series

were details changed, characters added and subtracted, etc.? Certainly. But it's not just a familiar title used randomly the way Marvel seems to do in many of their movies and tv shows.

And I absolutely love that Gunn promoted the comic by giving it a shout out, showing it, and a go read it pitch at the end of the teaser trailer.

I find King very hit or miss, more miss than hit, but this Supergirl mini is probably the 2nd best thing by him I've read(1st is the Helen of Wyndhorn creator-owned mini he also did with Bilquis Evely-the artist on the Supergirl mini).

Yes, everyone I know who's read the book said this looks like a very faithful adaptation, minus a few additions/subtractions.

It'd be cool if Lobo's interactions with Kara play out like his interactions with Clark in the Man of Tomorrow cartoon.

I loved the new Superman because he was a role model for kids, which is desperately needed these days. From what I've heard and seen about Supergirl, I don;t see little girls getting a hero they can or should model their behavior after. Not a fan of the party girl, who cares, vibes. I'm also very very tired of the crudeness in hollywood.

I don't see much point in making "exact same character as Superman, but in a dress". Gunn is establishing Clark and Kara as distinct characters with distinct personas, and I think that is smart.

I'm not familiar with the Tom King story, but it is clear from the trailer that this version of Kara is still dealing with the trauma of living through the destruction of Krypton. The "party girl" vibes are her (unhealthy) way of dealing with the pain. We see this trope of the flawed hero a lot in male characters, but for some reason we seldom see this with female heroes. I'm cautiously optimistic. I think this could be an interesting take.
