    Batman: Caped Crusader

Didn't see a thread on this on the first page, so I thought I'd start one. The 10 episode first (of many, hopefully) season dropped on Amazon yesterday. I planned on watching one or two. I watched five. It lives up to the hype. This feels like a version of BTAS that has grown up with its audience. Of course it is NOT in the same continuity, don't get me wrong. But it gave me those early, ganster-centric BTAS feels. I'm a sucker for the earliest iteration of Batman, so I was more than excited to see them stay in this world, but they've created their own niche. There are a few reintepretations that may have some diehards cluthcing their pearls (no pun intended), but the essence of the mythos is there. I highly recommend it to Batman fans, DCAU fans, Golden Age comics, and crime noir fans!

Before I saw the first episode, I wrote an article over at 13th Dimension on things I liked to see. I was presently surpised I was thinking in the right direction, if not exactly getting some things right.

We're terrible at binging so we are planning on taking this week to watch the 10 eps. We watched the first episode last night, and highly enjoyed it. We'll take in a couple more tonight.

I was never into the Timm cartoon but I watched the first ten minutes of this last night and I'm sure fans of it will be quite happy.

I cetainly am! Finished it up tonght. Great first season! I hope we get more, and I hope this is a huge success on Prime, and shows MAX how incredibly shortsighted they were in canceling it.

I don't have Prime, so I'm hoping for a video release which, with luck, will include Strange Days. I enjoyed the article--as usual with most of the 13th Dimension, your suggestions match my interests and preferences.

Regarding the trailer, Two-Face surprised me. Quite excited to see Penguin. And very curious to discover who the hatted-and-scarfed, disfigured villain is--Karlo Clayface?

Alfred becoming Outsider, and Onomatopoeia--I'm intrigued. I like the voice work, too.

I've heard enough to skip this. Too many changes that I don't consider "entertaining". I've been a Batman fan for my whole life.

It didn't click with me; I don't think the show is bad; however, I am just a bit done with it. Batman TAS was so good it put a bow on the character for me in some ways, although I did get a kick out of "Brave and the Bold." To be fair, it would be hard to get me excited for it.

I also wasn't into the female Penguin. I don't object to the notion, but they needed to do more there. It was just Mom from Futurama, I didn't realize what was going on right away.

^I've watched a few clips on YT. Initially taken aback by a female Cobblepot but intrigued enough to want to see the episode. There's a certain cultural angle/historical precedent for such a reversal, and I'm really curious if it's at least suggested.

I will say also, though, that Minnie Driver's vocal characterization is as mundane as mud, very disappointing.

I haven't had the time to watch this yet. Like some of the characters but still not sure about the setup.

I’ve watched the entire series once, and rewatched the two episodes I liked once again. No doubt there are really good things peppered throughout the other episodes, a line of dialogue here, a well constructed scene there. However, the mediocre and just plain bad is omnipresent. Of particular note is the lifeless musical score, a generic affair that could back a hundred other shows. No rousing theme, no personality. It hurts my heart to give this show 4/10

PS: The way the Harvey Dent story (woven throughout the show) is handled and resolved is quite possibly the dumbest thing I have seen since WB adapted THE KILLING JOKE

That's a shame, since Walker's music contributed so significantly to the earlier show's success.

i watched the first episode. Penguin was just plain awful. i like the animation and most of the voice cast was good. i'll give it another episode or 2

You guys watchiing the same show I am? Just kidding, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but this hit my Batman sweet spot. I applauded the different takes and not just rehashing the same story beats over and over again. BTAS' Two-Face origin is the best version ever, no stop. There was no way they were going to top that, but I appreciate that they tackled the character from another angle. That goes for a lot of this. BTAS was lightning in the bottle, overall the best version of the mythos across all media, including the comics. But just because they did it so well 30 years ago doesn't mean there aren't new stories to tell, and new angles to come at from.

I agree they didn't do as much with a femal Penguin as they could have, but I'm sure she'll be back. Then we can see if the change was worthwhile or just a stunt to mix things up.

Ok so I watched the next episode and thought it was pretty great. Their take on Clayface was fantastic and well-handled. I had that Basil Karlo story as a kid and I liked the weeks they made. I mean, come on, that was Jack Pierce.

So my "meh" goes to an "Ennhhh?" with a shoulder shrug.
