There is only 1 Superman in my book and it will always be Chris Reeve. I'm not saying any other portrayal was less than good but Chris will always be Superman to me.

I like both but prefer Christopher Reeve. That said like anything else, I admit to being heavily infleunced by when those movies came out.Comment

I'm in Georges corner, Chris was too wimpy as Super for me...I love those movies but I didn't get the feeling if indestructable Superman when he took off the glasses, not much change between Clark and SupesLooking for Infinite Heroes Robin and Catwoman
And Super Powers BatmanComment

I love the character of Superman, so I enjoy all of the versions. George, Kirk, Chris, et al. However, it's why I think that I have trouble enjoying Smallville. It just doesn't feel like the character(s) that I like. Nothing against the acting for any of them there. It's all good!Comment

I gotta give the slight edge to George. His was the most intelligent and clever interpretation of both characters. Chris will always be an inspiration to me both on screen and the aftermath of his accident, but I really disliked his uber-wimp Clark. Somewhere in between is the absolute perfect Sueprman.

I grew up with George Reeves as superman so he will always be the real superman to me(if you walk up to me and just say superman.... his image appears in my mind).Hell... he was my fathers superman as well. The way he carried himself as clark and supe's makes him forever the real life superman to me and every one who comes after is just "playing him".
With that said....... Chris Reeve did an awesome job in the first movie and became the superman for his generation hands down(he made a big impression on me)although I agree..... his clark was to stupid.
As a observation I had watching my son as he watched "superman returns" on dvd(one of the first live action movies he really watched )....... he was mesmerized by superman(I could see him silently thinking to himself as he watched supe's bring the airliner to a stop in the stadium.......WOW!!!).....that's why superman will always be a hero for generations to come"Thats the ticket laddie"Comment

George Reeves is like the Silver Age Earth-1 Superman whereas Christopher Reeve is the Bronze Age Earth-1 Superman....that is, same character but different eras....Both work for me.....
George played Clark and Superman exactly the same. Clark had to carry the show due to the budget, so it made sense to portray Clark as a tough reporter, but it hardly helped the wafer-thin disguise conundrum.
Chris actually pulled off playing two distinct characters. Just watch that scene in Lois' apartment from the first movie where he takes off his glasses and stands straight and puffs out his chest. Now that is acting my friends.

I have the disagree ...
I'm not saying Reeves is a bad actor -- he's not ...
But his portayal of both Superman and Clark Kent was rather lousy
ANYONE could have played his dimwitted Clark and got the same results ... it took no acting skills to pull off Chris's Clark
His Superman was rather stiff and had just a faint personality.
Yes he smiled at the camera at the end, but it wasn't a friendly smile ...
Just watch it again and you'll see ....
His ending smile was more like an EVIL GRIN like he's surprised you sat through the whole movie
I don't dislike Reeve or his movies .. on the contrary...
I just think they don't compare to GeorgeLast edited by Mikey; Oct 30, '09, 12:02 PM.Comment

Not to knock Chris but I thought George was the better actor in other movies....If you ever see him in "So Proudly We Hail" you'll see what I mean. Even his small role in From here to eternity is awesome.
I could never get into any of Chris's films outside of Superman...I found him boring to watch.Comment

I found Chris boring to watch as Superman, any minute I thought he'd get mad about a cracked fingernail. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment
