I always liked George, and as an adult I really like the quiet dignity and subtle humor he brought to the role. He came across as a very wise person who tempered all his actions with a lot of thought. Great way to portray Superman.
Not to get into that old debate, but Chris Reeve is MY Superman, though. I think they both worked best for their time, and we are lucky that both men got the role, and gave us a lot of joy by both doing an excellent job at something others would scoff at and ruin.
I have a friend Carl Glass who runs a great website devoted to George Reeves and the TV show. Glass House Presents
Reeves IMO is my Ultimate version because it's what i was first exposed to. Plus he played both versions well.
Although I loved Chris reeves version i always disliked his Clark. Plus Chris seemed bored by the role by the time he did Superman 3 and Forget 4 that was pure garbage.
The Tv show has a charm to it because of the time they did very well with what they could use....Plus absolutely no one but no one crashed into walls like George and i always loved seeing him bounce out the window.
Plus I love his Superman suit both the B&W and Color and the way he wore his cape was awesome!!!
The big difference between Christopher Reeve and George Reeves was George was always about the kids ... Stamp Day, flying the girl around the word, flying the crippled girl to the fair, performing for kids at the circus etc, etc, etc.
Chris was more geared toward teenagers who were more worried about seeing Superman fight badguys and falling in love... and showing human vulnerablility.
That stuff is ok, I guess ... but it also made Superman more distant.
Chris is my Superman also. He was my first exposure to the character beyond Superfriends. I didn't know of George till I was a little older and saw him on I Love Lucy. He's an amazing Superman though. He really has the presence down. When I see him I think "Oh cool its Superman!"
So I like them both for different reasons.
