    George Tuska RIP

Classic artist George Tuska has passed away at age 93. He did a ton of comics work from the Golden Age on, most recently I think he did some variants for the Dynamite book Death Defying Devil (Golden-Age Daredevil to those of us not legally challenged).
He did just about every series I could think of, but some of the ones you may remember best were The Champions, Man-Wolf, Planet of the Apes, some Iron Man for Marvel...he did the newspaper strip World's Greatest Heroes-Superman for DC in the '70s...so much more, this guy was a legendary worker.
I met him a few years back at a comiccon in Scranton Pa. A really nice guy, did this beautiful Green Lantern sketch for me.

Tuska was one of those artists (along with Kirby and Ditko) that I hated as a kid, but slowly began to appreciate as I reached my teen years. Tuska had a dynamic style that seemed to me to be part Kirby, part Ross Andru (although I think he was in the biz before Andru). A good solid comic storyteller and artist with a very distinctive style. He was apparently quite popular and well-respected in the industry, even in the 50s and 60s. I have read stories about Pete Morisi, creator of Charlton's Peter Cannon, Thunderbolt saying he was asked to draw in Tuska's style back in the 50s.

      RIP.

That GL looks solid. That is sad news - RIP. One of those artist you came across all the time in picking up random comics as a kid. Must have been a steady worker since it seemed he was filling in on titles all the time. I remember his style fit pretty well in Iron Man.

You know what's really sad...the fact that he was well into his 80's/90's and he could STILL draw rings around 80% of the so called comic book artists of today. Had the pleasure of meeting him on a couple of occasions here in NY. Nicest most genuine person you'd find.

This brings me back to the fact that if you are at a comic show...please go up to these great artists and talk to them or say hello. It's sad when you see some of these guys at shows and nobody is on their lines to get autographs. I mean these guys are legends in the field for Christ's sake. Meanwhile some idiot like the likes of Rob Liefeld or Jim Lee gets lines that go forever...and they've done absolutely nothing IMHO.

Tuska's run on Iron Man is one that everyone should look back on to see how great he was. He also had a run on Infinitly Inc. if I'm not mistaken. Either before or after the McFarlane run.
"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
            The beauty that surrounds them
            Isn't it a pity".

So sad to Hear I got to meet him two years back a co-worker of mine lived next door to him in Jersey. It was a thrill and an honor to meet one of the quiet greats of the business. He was a very simple and humble guy. R.I.P
