I think DC has a wheel in their office that they spin once a year to see which of these title gets relaunched:

    Doom Patrol
    New Gods
    The Creeper
    The Demon

Its random which one comes up, so if there have been 5 DP series in 10 years (and I think there have) it's the luck of the draw.

      ^ Heh!

Let's look at it like this.....

After taking over My Greatest Adventure, The Doom Patrol runs from #86 (March '64) 'til #121 (Sept. '68)....a decent run. Revived for 3 reprints in 1973.

The NEW Doom Patrol appears for 3 issues in Showcase in 1977. A regular series doesn't materialize at the time.

The DP is relaunched in Oct. '87 (#1) and continues until Feb. '95 (#87), becoming a Vertigo title along the way....another decent run.

Re-relaunched in 2001 for 22 issues, ending in 2003. Obviously NOT successful.

Re-re-relaunched and REBOOTED by John Byrne (all previous relaunches are IN continuity!) in 2004 for 18 issues, ending in 2006. Again, NOT successful.

Re-re-re-relaunched NOW in 2009....How many issues in before it's cancelled yet AGAIN....taking the Metal Men* back-up strip with it?

Apparently, DC cannot hit upon a formula for these guys that works anymore. Besides the original series, the most successul take has been the one started in '87 and that's probably because Grant Morrison took over with issue #19 (otherwise I think it would have been cancelled) and gave us something unique and a little "out-there" at times.
And Vertigo-style stuff was HOT back then.

(* THESE guys haven't had any recent success either.....DC can't seem to get a handle on them....probably the most faithful version in recent years is the one currently appearing in Wednesday Comics by (GULP!) Dan DiDio and the legendary Jose Luis Garcia Lopez.)
Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!

        Toy Room,

If Final Crisis Legion of 3 Worlds had shipped on time and finished up around December of 08, Superboy Prime wouldn't have appeared for about 8 or 9 months, Rather than just 3 or 4.

On one level I love that Johns works with guys like Perez and Van Sciver and Kubert, but I also feel for him because the books always ship late and backs some of his plans up.

Flash Rebirth was conceived to end just before Blackest Night started, but as it is now the first issue of the Blackest Night Flash mini series will probably appear before or around the same time as Rebirth ends.

Rebirth 6 is now scheduled for Nov. 25, No. 5 is Oct. 14 and No. 4 Aug. 26
