How did Iris' death in The Flash impact you in the 70's?

I only started reading The Flash as a kid after Iris' death, but looking at those issues now, I can only imagine how shocking it must have been for the seventies.

Was anyone reading The Flash back then? How did you react to her death?

It seems things like that didn't used to happen to superhero characters, and it probably kicked off the modern age of this kind of status quo changing events that are so prevalent in comics now.

I was reading Flash around that time...Iris died in #275 and I had hopped aboard around issue #260. I remember it being somewhat of a shocker briefly but then Barry seemed to rebound pretty quickly and I pretty much forgot about Iris. There were no lasting effects like there would be today, where they'd drag it on for years and years. Iris was revived around Flash #350 (at the end of that series) and I really didn't see it coming...at that point Iris was just a faded memory. But I thought it was a good place to put the Flash with her in the future, even if it was a short lived-hapiness for them before he died in Crisis #8.

Didn't faze me in the least. Like Toyroom said, Barry quickly went on to other things and you kinda forgot, it wasn't brought up over & over again like things are today. There was less aungst in the old days...our heroes were made of tougher stuff.

And Barry didn't waste any time in trying to hook up (briefly) with Zatanna over in the pages of JLA, so that made Iris' death even more "ennnnh".

Killing Iris and Aquababy were DC's first stabs at apeing Marvel's tendency to do shocking deaths (like Gwen Stacy). Unfortunately, it's a trend that most comic writers just can't get away from.

After Gwen Stacy was killed off in Spiderman, anyone else "killed' became the new plot twist for comics. So while Iris' death was sad it essentially became part of a movement that unfortunately has NOT died to this day.

i Thought it was something they wouldn't allow to happen, and then they barely referred to it except in barry dealing with zoom and his trial.
