DC's First character (in DC chronology, not company real-world when-created chronology... if you know what I mean).

Anthro also appeared at the beginning of Final Crisis and the 1985 Crisis on Infinite Earths.

So, what if Anthro's cave ends up being the Batcave? maybe Dick will find Bruce's cave paintings.

Didn't that happen in the original Crisis? I remember Anthro being in the middle of Wayne Manor. Can't remember if his cave was there or not.

Man...I need to "re-read" the Original Crisis! It's been so long I can't remember it.

Looks like you were dead on the money! They identify whatever is inhabiting Black Hand at the end of the issue as being on par with Ion and Parallax.

                    It's got to be Nekron!

^ Yup! Especially since the unnamed entity wants "back" the heroes who have been revived and escaped deaths clutches like Clark Kent, Oliver Queen, Barry Allen....

You know, when they first said "The Dead Shall Rise" I thought "NEKRON!" It has to be. Johns is good at digging up the good villains so many others have overlooked for years.

And yes, I do believe Anthro's cave was said to be the Batcave later. I remember Jason Todd and Alfred in the cave meeting the former owners in Crisis.

My first thoughts were more towards Black Racer or Gaiman's Death, but Johns doesn't really play much in the New Gods or Vertigo Sandbox, like Morrison does.

I think Doug Manhke's (sp?) art is absolutely perfect for this Black Hand arc. I can't wait to see his take on Nekron.

Hopefully without derailing the thread too much regarding Anthro, part of Morrison's schtick with Batman seems to be that he's doing backflips trying to pull in as much of Batman's seven decade long past history as possible, no matter how ludicrous.

I would imagine Batman being unstuck in time or the Multiverse or whatever is his way of accommodating stuff like this...

Or hunting down Jack the Ripper, or fighting Dracula or whatever other Elseworlds/imaginary stories exist.

You guys have to track down the Tales of the Green Lantern Corps Annual #2from 1986, it's currently jumping in price somewhat on Ebay- I've seen it from $10-25.
It has a story by Alan Moore in it which is the basis for this whole Blackest Night/Sinestro Corps story. The story was reprinted in Across the Universe: The DC stories of Alan Moore trade paperback.

The first part of blackest Night was pretty cool. Liked the backstory origin to Black Hand (who was always one of GL's lamer villains), and the potential Black Lanterns being shown are pretty interesting! Can't wait 'til next week.
Oh, and look around your comic shop for the Blackest Night checklist/postcard which is kinda neat and I hear there will be black promo rings out too.

Johns took silly silver-age villains in Flash and recreated them into worthy adversaries and he's done it in GL 43 with the Black Hand.

There's some Jeffery Dahmer influence going on in that origin. Top notch effort.

Also, if Nekron is what's behind Blackest Night (and its got to be) then that Tales of the Green Lantern Corps mini from the early 1980s ought to get popular on the collector's market, too. Great Bolland covers and a fine story.

Black Hand was a very cliche villain (yes, pun intended...as Black Hand used to formulate his crimes around old cliches)....Geoff Johns has put some spark into a rather lame character and has made a quite formidable foe for Green Lantern in this modern age.
