    Captain America: Reborn

What we all knew would happen is official- Marvel confirms they are bringing back Cap next month.

On a side note, I find it interesting how much more publicity Marvel has seemed to generate with the death of Cap than DC did with the death of the much more widely known Batman. Perhaps I have missed it, but I saw several news outlet report Cap's death, but I've seen nothing in the mainstream media about Batman. I think it just shows how much better Marvel is at at publicity.

Captain America is coming back to life in a comic near you

From The New York Daily News-

Captain America is making a miraculous recovery.

Two years after Marvel Comics knocked off its famous star-spangled superhero, he's gonna be back and better than ever.

"The original Captain America is finally coming back," Marvel Comics editor in chief Joe Quesada told the Daily News. "We've been patiently planning for this moment for 21/2 years."

Captain America will return next month in a five-comic book series, "Captain America Reborn."

The dramatic return is coming not a moment too soon for fans of the superhero and his alter ego, Steve Rogers.

Marvel writer Ed Brubaker was stunned at the global reaction when Captain America was gunned down on the steps of a courthouse.

"It was crazy," said Brubaker. "I had shock jocks calling me up at 5:30 in the morning - they got my home number somehow - and they were like, 'Ed, tell us it's not true, tell us Captain America is not dead.'"

It's been 68 years since creators Joe Simon and Jack Kirby introduced Rogers - a scrawny kid who is injected with a "Super Soldier" serum to fight the Nazis - to an adoring fan base.

Captain America has appeared in more than 210 million comics in 75 countries since then, and a big-budget movie is scheduled for 2011.

"He's a pop culture icon," said Bryan Hitch, artist for "Captain America Reborn."

"[Captain America] at heart is a bit of an old-fashioned guy - he looks like Brad Pitt, but smells like your granddad."

Death in comics, of course, is almost never as final as it is in real life.

Marvel's archrival, DC Comics, killed Superman in 1993, only to bring him back a year later.

There's still no word about how creators plan to bring Captain America back to life.

One thing's for sure - it'll definitely be a hit.

"Consumers are responding to it like crazy," said Gerry Gladston, co-owner of Midtown Comics in Manhattan. "They don't feel like it's a stunt."

I wondered about the lack of Batman coverage too. Could be WB didn't want it publicly known DC "killed" Batman during his hottest year with DK out and merchandise on the shelves. Plus, they showed Bruce alive in the past in the last issue of FC, so it kind of immediately took away any real punch it had.

Cap seemed D-E-A-D. But of course, we all knew he'd be back.

I kinda figured they would wait until next year and bring him back as a publicity gimmick to promote the new movie. Whatever, at least Rogers is back.Curious to see how Bucky will fit in now?

...With this development and the MJ/Spidey business, you think Marvel is backtracking a bit? Figured out they were po'ing more fans than grabbing new ones with this stuff and decided to beat a hasty retreat?

          Hmmmm....

I'm not too sure how to take this. Is it REALLY news that he's coming back? No. Superhero heaven has a revolving door. But conventional wisdom has been to SURPRISE the audience with a comeback; not scream it from the rooftops. This implies one of two thing to me:

-they've finally come to trms with the audience and don't want to lie to us any more
          OR
-it's a marketing gimmick to hype up the issue.

It's ALSO possible that they're gonna surprise the audience with something completely unexpected. (Steve Rogers is the new Captain Universe....) But I have my doubts on that. (Steve Rogers is the new Batman....)

So is this Guy gonna be Black,.. or is Steve Comming back ?.
I think where the Miss reportment of Killing the Bat Off,.. is when it was origionally leaked about a yr or More before it actually Happened, ( Tbolt reported it here btw 1st, in that time frame) , and then I had heard rumors for quite sometime, that 1 of the "3" would "die" ,DC & the Editors were trying thier Damnest to report the leakage as inaccurate, & Misleading. So,.. everyone already had thier suspicisions on the Matter for a while before it even happened,... Then Morrision had Fun with removing (Killing) the Batman/Bruce not once but Twice.

When Steve Rogers THE Captain America was killed,.. it was the very next book after Civil War, it came at you like a hidden Gun (literally) and you had no idea it was even comming, until every comicbook shop accross the country never ordered enough copies to feed the demand of the book, hence driving the prices on ebay up to rediculous hights. Both R.I.P. & Final Crisis were way over ordered & purchased books.

could the title Reborn be referring to Project:Rebirth where Cap got his powers? Maybe this is going to be a govt manufactured replacement for Rogers? As far as Batman's demise, credit that to Rich Johnston and his LITG column.

Yeah, Johnston leaked that. He also said Bruce was going to come back as a New God. But then Morrison changed medication.

Looks like there are quite a few red herrings running around Cap #600 to keep us on our toes.

Characters in this issue include 1950's Cap, Bucky Cap, Patriot, Isaiah Bradley, and a liefeld creation...

                      So. Any guesses HOW?

Red Skull hijack Steve's body? Putting Steve's spirit in someone else' body? (Isaiah? 50's Cap?) Something to do with Sharon and Steve's unborn kid in the vein of Cable and Time Travel? The Onslaught Universe Steve wandering into 616 (boobs and all)?

The Red Skull was cloning Steve Rogers bodies back in the 1980s...he was wearing one himself for awhile. Add in all the Cosmic & Semi-Cosmic Cubes he's had or tried to create, toss in Arnim Zola & his bizarre experiments...I'd say the real Steve Rogers was captured somehow and substituted with a ringer. The real Steve is floating inside one of those Marvel issue lab tanks full of goop, hooked to a bazillion wires.
Forget Stark tech...I want stock in the laboratory supply company that builds those inertia tanks. Nobody in the Marvel Universe just lies in a bed with a tube up his nose like on real Earth...nah, they get suspended inside one of those Houdini tanks. T'Challa's in one this month as well.

My HOPE is the Captain America shot wasn't Steve Rogers at all. I say that because it didn't make ANY sense to walk him unprotected through a hostile crowd where he was susceptible to being attacked. That made no sense whatsoever.

And this idea that the real Steve Rogers hasn't been around for most of the title's run harkens back to the debunked clone explanation given to Spiderman in the 90's (and you saw the negative reaction to that). What Marvel runs a serious risk of doing is revealing a subplot so unoriginal that readers will feel they were milked out of alot of cash for meaningless stories that could have been resolved in a few issues, rather than years of deadend storylines. This in turn imperils the movie, especially if fans believe Marvel is going to get "conceptual" with their casting.

In my eyes this long, overblown, delay in bringing Captain America back has to have a true, relevant, reason for occurring. I still hold firm to my initial thinking that this 'Cap' shot was a setup and that Cap's apparent "murder" was designed to move the real Cap underground to infiltrate that terrorist organization and flush out the Red Skull. Just a thought...

Nick Fury has something to do with the whole affair, that's my guess. Nick and Cap go way way back, and he helped him during the civil war. I think it will end up with barnes becoming the new Nomad, after he killed Jack Monroe....
