Captain America #600 - BIG NEWS!

In case you missed this (and it got buried pretty quick):
Captain America #600 will be released on MONDAY JUNE 15th by special arrangement with Diamond Comics. And #50 which comes out the week prior is rushing to a second printing already. Rumor has been that Steve Rogers is returning this summer, could this be it? It's looking like Marvel has a Monday morning (or Sunday afternoon) press release planned, and is trying to promote this without some of the hassle they got from retailers on the Obama Spidey fiasco.

If you have a local dealer unaware of this let them know so you don't miss out! It seems like it was promoted to retailers in an online memo- my guy hadn't seen it until I informed him, computer luddite that he is. Might be worth grabbing & Ebaying an extra copy or two right away...Cap #25 was selling for a $100 or more the day that issue broke to the press, as was the Obama cover Spidey.

Here's a link to the article on CBR:

^ The 1st issue of "Reborn" comes out on July 1st, so I guess that's close enough to July 4th for Marvel. My guess is a Steve Rogers revival/resurrection in Cap #600 will only be a teaser leading up to the Reborn miniseries.

              ....mmmmmMMMMMEEEEEEEeeeeeeehhhhhhh....

Is a superhero coming back from the dead really news any more? Superhero heaven has always had a revolving door, but is hyping it up that great an idea? Is it possible to NOT be anti-climatic, regardless of how it turns out?

No doubt leveraging this in anticipation of the Captain America film.

I'd like to see Ed Brubaker writing a Winter Soldier ongoing while staying on as the regular Cap writer.

I love the fact that Spiderman keeps calling him "Bucky Cap" in New Avengers.

                    Bleeding Cool Probably

So what are the plot secrets behind Ed Brubaker’s CAPTAIN AMERICA #600 and REBORN #1? Why are Marvel so sure they’ll get major international publicity about to the extent that they won’t release any solicitation information until the coverage is received? And why is #600 being released two days early to match up with said coverage?

There’s certainly a lot of theories.

                    1) That Will Smith will be announced as playing Captain America and Reborn will see a black character taking the role (possibly with an appearance by Barack Obama). Well any aspect of this would certainly get the publicity.

                    2) That the appearance of the Heroes Reborn Bucky in Captain America 600 will see a return to the Heroes Reborn world and characters, as portrayed by Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld. But who outside certain comic book readers would care? This feels a massive red herring.

                    3) The return of Steve Rogers. This has always been the most likely of scenarios, and its the one I’ve been hearing about most from my contacts and the one I’d put my BleedingCool dollars on. But why are Marvel so sure that it will get a lot of public attention? What do they have up their sleeve? Obama in this one as well?

Remember this isn’t just Marvel’s usual promotional tactics. They truly believe that there is something about Reborn #1 and Captain America #600 that is equivalent to Civil War #2, Amazing Spider-Man #583 and Captain America #25. They just can’t tell anyone what yet.

For these events, Marvel has usually paired with a major American newspaper, giving them an exclusive story in return for decent placement. Looks like they’re doing the same for Monday 15th June.

Whichever bet you place ladies and gentlemen, just remember. America wins!

UPDATE: As The Sword Is Drawn mentions in the comments, it could well be a mixture. That the actor playing Captain America will be announced (whoever it is) and that the new returning Steve Rogers will be drawn to resemble him. Got to say, I like that theory.

As it seems to be with all comics these days; it appears there is going to be an Alex Ross variant cover to #600.

Spider-Man has two variant covers for their #600 that I'm aware of and Hulk has one variant that I'm aware of at this point.

As much as I like Alex Ross' artwork, I think he's whoring himself out a little too much lately...

In the year that has proven a Black Man can be President and the very real possibility that Will Smith can be Captain America on the big screen.
