That looks like the Spirit's shadow on the right side...might be pretty cool. This looks like a Doc from the pulp covers, not the paperback covers as generally thought of.
I'd SO love a regular Doc Savage series again, set in the 30s- not that updated nonsense they pulled before with him & the Shadow.
Someone recommended Philip Jose Farmer's take on Doc Savage to me. Has anyone read it? Apparently Farmer drew him into a shared universe ala The Riverboat and teamed him up with Tarzan?
Farmer wrote the Doc novel 'Escape From Loki' being the story of how Doc met his five aides. He also wrote a couple Doc-based stories around a character he called Doc Caliban. Did the same with Tarzan.
He also wrote "biographies" of Doc Savage & Tarzan- "Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life" and "Tarzan Alive!". In those books he proposed family trees for both characters tieing them together along with just about every other literary hero. For instance, Doc is cousins with Richard Benson, the Avenger from Justice Inc. Both are descended from Sherlock Holmes & Irene Adler, whose son was Nero Wolfe (another cousin to Doc). Etc. Etc. It's not taken as canon though, at least so far as I'm aware, just some fantasy work from Farmer. I don't recall an actual team-up for Doc & Tarzan, but I could be wrong. Doc has teamed up in comics with Spider-Man, the Thing from the Fantastic Four, and the Shadow.
^^^ Man, that is going to be sweet!! Now if it takes off it could be DC's version of the League of Extrordinary Gentlemen, pulling in different pulp and comic heroes of the 30's and 40's.

Giggety! I can't wait for this! With this and Wednesday Comics DC is SLOWLY earning back some of my faith and trust...if only it could carry over to the mainstream DCU and books other than those written by Geoff Johns.
Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!
According to DiDio, things have changed since the initial artwork was done, so that's why DC only released the Doc Savage portion. The other characters are still unauthorized as they're working that part out. Some may change. Sounds like the still have licenses to persue.

^^ The four characters depicted are Doc, The Spirit, Blackhawk and Rima the Jungle Girl. It is supposed to be a series set in the DCU of the early Golden Age.
