    Watchmen Movie

Hi Just got back from seeing the watchmen movie, and while I sat there enthralled wit it and it was very much the comic on the screen and it was a good 2 and a half hours, it did remind me why I hate the graphic novel, and why I think it was the begining of the end for "real Comics"

What did anyone else think of it?

I really liked it, but in a strange way, it's actually too loyal to the graphic novel. I think it will lose those who haven't read the book. It's such a scene for scene translation that it loses some impact, which keeps it from being great.

As with the original comics, the strength is in the vivid character studies and the non-linear way in which they are unveiled, and the weakness is in the overall plot, particularly the clunker of an ending. Even without the Giant Squid.

I was fascinated by how they managed to create a kind of resonance in the conclusion with the Post-Bush/9-11/WMD world we are entering, and it might actually be a stronger ending than the Giant Squid, but still not an entirely satisfying conclusion other than the Rorschach twists (again, as with the original comics version).

I am actually looking forward to the 3 1/2 hour version since each character portrait after The Comedian and Dr Manhatten seemed more rushed or simply glossed over in service of the plot. I'm also very very curious how the animated Pirate Comic they are adding in will interact with the live action movie stuff since it seems to be a narrative device that only translates in the idiom of graphic novel narrative as a "comic within a comic" device.

Overall, it works quite well if you are a fan of the original comic, not quite sure how the general public will react to it. I'd have to agree that it might have adhered a bit too closely to the original source material in some respects.

I liked it. Thought the soundtrack was choice and visually, it is very cool. The fight scenes were great.

I agree with the assessment that those who haven't read Watchmen will be scratching their heads and I wonder if that will seriously cripple the box office for this movie. I heard the conversations as the movie let out and a lot of people indicated that they didn't get it.
I heard one dude say, "I'm not going to remember much about this movie except that little "Roarshaw" dude was a bad*ss."

I had a diehard Watchman and comicbook fan tell me that this movie completley sucked. I am still going to see it. The fact it came from a guy that loved this comicbook really bummed me out. He said there was too much "wee wee in the movie". Whatever that means.
I guess I will find out. I am going tomorrow.

Loved it! It was to the superhero movie, what the books were to the graphic novel... I agree it was the mark of the "adult" comic book, same with the movie...

                  I highly reccomend!

I really loved the first half hour... then got kind of bored. My wife liked it, and she is not familiar with the graphic novel.

I thought it was overall; awsome. Faithful in adaptaion, brilliant in execution!

Some have said the sex scene goes on too long. Which? The one where Nite Owl fails or where he suceeds? I thought both were of reasonable length.

The violence was pretty graphic. This was on purpose. In the comucs it's artwork but in a film it has to be realistic. Also these are not typical DC or Marvel superheroes. Their attitude to take down the villains even if you have to kill them.

Some things I could criticize: Dr. Manhattan was a bit stiff and I don't just mean the CGI. Most importantly where Laurie convinces him to try and save the world. He's their last hope. There should've been some stronger indication of an emotional breakthrough. He finally makes a connection with humanity and I think we should've detected it a little more.
