For me it's a dead-heat tie between Frank Gorshin as The Riddler and Julie Newmar as Catwoman.
Gorshin's manic portrayal of the Prince of Puzzlers put the Riddler on the map as far as being one of Batman's "Top Four" foes...previously he was a forgotten villain that only appeared once or twice.
And Julie as Catwoman....Purr-fect! I agree 100% about the "stirrings in the utility belt" line....Julie was good as the Catwoman but when Catwoman was BAD she was even better!

And for non-canon foe from the TV series, again a tie between Vincent Price as Egghead and Victor Buono as King Tut. They did a LOT with characters that really had no history with the Caped Crusaders.Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!Comment

My favorite was Frank Gorshin's Riddler.
I still have a huge crush on Julie Newmar - loved her Catwoman. I liked the Bookworm. He was probably my favorite original character. Frustrated writer that turns to crime - based on novel storylines...
The Puzzler, Louie The Lilac and The Sandman had to be the wackiest.Shameless self-promotion -

I always loved Caesar Romero as the Joker. To me he is the Joker.
Gorshin of course was fantastic as Riddler. Burgess Meredith as the Penguin, never done better. Julie Newmar in skin tight black pleather....meow.....tell the truth these four were all so perfectly cast and evoke such great memories for me that I cannot choose just one.Comment

For me I am torn between Cesear's Joker, Gorshin's Riddler & Bergie's Penguin... They are really well done for that time period.
As far as hottness goes,.. ofcourse Newmire's Catwoman.... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

Julie Newmar as Catwoman is #1...I wrote to her awhile back and sent her a Catwoman comic book. She signed it for me and sent a Catwoman photo personalized as well!
Gotta give it up for KING TUT though! As sexy goes, he a close second!Comment

The four main villains, Joker, Riddler, Pengy and Catwoman were perfectly cast. King Tut was great, too. And DC is doing something right, bringing Tut into the Batman comics. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. As a kid---I loved watching Gorshin and Romero---dang they were
playing my two favorite Bat-villains---hammed it up and looked great---
Nowadays, the impression I have is "Yeah, yeah----you're both
real wacky guys---but the guy who pulled off REAL character
of THE BIG THREE...was MEREDITH"
So, yeah, Burgess Meredith by a mile.
The gals as Catwoman were pretty cool too."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

The big 4, with Newmar as Catwoman were the best of course. Gorshin all but created the Riddler, and Romero and Meredith nailed the classic comic versions that DC published from the mid 40s through the 60s. Newmar's Catwoman was actually more interesting and sensual than her comic counterpart was usually portrayed by that time. She seemed genuinely disturbed, but in an attractive way of course!
If I had to pick though, I'd go with Gorshin.
Of the made-up villains, I liked the Bookworm best too. King Tut was good, but it was the same storyline over and over. Shame was a lot of fun too. Robertson seemed to be really enjoying himself, playing such a dumb character.

Frank's take on the Riddler is without equal!* In comics, cartoons & movies (ugh!) the character of the Riddler has been all over the map but but Frank defined the Riddler!
*Of course tho, Julie Newmar as Catwoman was hotter!Last edited by StrangeVisitor; Dec 19, '08, 8:47 PM..Comment
