I remember in fifth grade, I had this great teacher, Mr. Arinello. He was a big Beatles fan, so we'd listen to them a lot while we were doing our schoolwork. Anyway, he had thisone area of the classroom that was a 10' x10' carpet. he instructed all of us to bring in a pillow. If we had any reading to do for school, he would let us read there instead of having to sit at our desks if we wanted. And the best thing was, he brought in his comic book collection, which we were free to read if we had finished our work. It was awesome. I remember reading a bunch of horror comics that scared the crap out of me, and some cool superhero (mostly DC) as well. Ahhh, the 1970's!

What you found him looking at when he was talking to your mom?

It must be nice being able to set your own agenda in an after school program. I unfortunately have a set of objectives that must be accomplished so field trips of a cultural nature are out. Plus I'm not sure how much educational value there would be by going to a comic book shop. Couldn't they do that on their own or with a parent instead of taking up valuable instruction time?

I think it's Day care what she does,so i don't think it would be the same process of say a public school of getting funding and all the permission stuff approved like it use to be when I was in school

I don't work within the school system, and I do work for a private day care, (ages 5-12). And yes, I can plan the field trips I want within the school budget. And anything that encourages kids to read (which is what all of them were doing when we came back) is OK in my book! That comic book store even gives teacher discounts!

Field trips in the regular school system are hard to come by. We do a 7th grade weekend trip to San Antonio (Alamo,a few Spanish missions, sea world) and then to Austin (the capital) but the kids pay for the trip.

Sounds like a great store HG. Glad to see they are accomoadating to kids. I've been in stores where the clerks roll their eyes when I walk in with my kids. It's no wonder us 30+ year olds are the last of the true comic fans.

With stores like that, maybe some new ones can be created.
