Taking my class to the comic book store today...

...and while I'm there, I'll see if I can find any EMCE's in the wild. Cya later!

Be prepared to answer the following questions:

"Why is Spider-Man a skeleton? And why is he eating that woman? He scares me!"

"Why does that woman have kick balls glued to her chests?"

"What's all this red stuff all over Wolverine?"

A comic shop can be a bewildering place for kids. It's very sad, actually. There's one store around here I won't take my kids into anymore. Too much disturbing stuff at their eye level.

My Grandfather used to call them "funny books".
I don't think that label really applies too much anymore.

I sounded really pessimistic earlier. There are great comics for kids like Tiny Titans and Super Friends out there. You just have to get the kids past the T & A and gore when you walk in to many comic stores. Not all, but many.

When I go to Dr. Comics and Mr. Games here in Oakland, I always call ahead, so they have enough help on the floor. I take my class there quite a bit, so they know me. The store clerks are very good at steering the kids away from the inappropriate stuff, and into things that are more their speed. Some of them bought trading cards, but there was some Archie, Hanna Montana, Jughead, Hulk, Ben 10, Looney Tunes, Cartoon Network, Sabrina/Witch, Batman and they all got free Gumby comics. I got a Hulk Pop-up Retro collection book to go w/ my Spidey book. No EMCEs I'm sorry to say, but the kids had fun.

I Practically Lived in My Local Comic Book Shop. I Was Amazed by How many Comics they Had. I Loved looking at all the Cool Super Heroes. It was a Magical Part of my Life. Kudos to you Hardy Girl

                          CHERISH that store!!!

Around my way, most of the stereotypes most popularized by The Simpsons Comic Book Guy...are sadly true.
