      Man, as much as I love Spiderman and am a loyal fan...I would have to agree. Superman is THE quentessential superhero. No contest.

                  Well in terms of time Thor and Hercules have been around a heck of alot longer. When kids still know who you are a couple of thousands years after someone thought you up that says alot.
                  Lo there do I see my Father.
                  Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
                  Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
                  Lo they do call me.
                  They bid me take my place among them.
                  In the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever.

                              They were heros for the time they were created. And that they still exist in some form today is pretty amazing.

                                              Historical footnote aside. My vote goes to the Big Red Cheese. SHAZAM can go toe to toe with the blue boyscout but he has an edge being a magical entity. Sups 2nd big weakness barring kryptonite
