Yup he was but he kinda is better know for his Newspaper strips and books. The character which is a favorite of mine was a bigger hit in Australia than he was here.

But come on! Clark slaps on a suit with a cape and a big "S" on it and nobody recognizes him? He can fly, even into space without oxegen, super strong, exray vision, super fast, ice/heat breath. This guy is unbeatable, except if you have a certain "rock" with you.
Forget the lame villains he has!
Now, Spiderman on the other hand, is a bit more human. Has real problems like real people. Sure, he has super strenght and some cool powers, but he is beatable. He looses sometimes, gets his suit dirty, even ripped! What about those bad guys! Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Hobgoblin,Mysterio,Sandman, Kraven,Shocker, just to name a few! Now THOSE are cool bad guys! I still think my mego Superman is one of the coolest figures I have though!

Is this a Sales Pitch ?
Sounds like a Bias Opinion, from someone who never even read a dc Comicbook let alone anything outside of 1971.

I'll admit it's all opinion on this subject.

              Still SUPERMAN is my favorite.

And I always resent people knocking on Supes' rogues gallery.

As far as I'm concerned no hero's badguy pen can beat:

LEX LUTHOR, BIZARRO, MR. MYXLPLTLK, BRAINIAC, TOYMAN,
DOOMSDAY, PARASITE, METALLO, PRANKSTER, TERRA MAN,
LEGION OF SUPERVILLAINS, KRYPTONITE MAN, TITANO,
              GENERAL ZOD, etc.

(and I don't know if DARKSEID counts---probably not
although the TIMMVERSE makes a good case for it!)

Sorry Hue but I respectfully disagree. Both Batman and Spiderman have a way Better rogues gallery that the non Superhero Community can name.

One of Superman's main movie problem is that he has a bit of a lame rogue's gallery. Where Batman and Spiderman can run off with a few movies without repeating the Villans.

You wouldn't be the first to disagree on this...in fact ...no ONE seems to..

                        Still...
as far as movies go....I don't buy that the Supes villains can't carry a movie...

I wish I was a better or quicker writer---I'd write a spec script
starring ATOMIC SKULL (a lesser known Supes villain---look him up on wiki)
---I don't see what's so difficult if you put some elbow grease into the
writing process---and get creative on giving Supes a bit more
physical and mental flaw than usual...just enough to balance...ya know?

                        BIZARRO, MR. MYXLPLTLK, BRAINIAC, TOYMAN,
DOOMSDAY, PARASITE, METALLO, PRANKSTER, TERRA MAN,
LEGION OF SUPERVILLAINS, KRYPTONITE MAN, TITANO

^^^^You're telling me there's not a bunch of potential great movies there?

And I wouldn't mind some more LUTHOR and ZOD flicks at this point anyway.

Hey---I like Spidey's rogue's gallery a lot. ELECTRO, RHINO, LIZARD
VULTURE and SANDMAN are some of my favorite villains ever---
(I was never a huge OCK or GOBLIN fan)

Batman? The Joker IS my favorite supervillain---
(besides THE JOKER there are not many Bat-villains that hold my
                        attention for long)

But as far as quantity and quality of "TOP favorites" in a supervillain
                        rogues gallery...
LUTHOR, BIZARRO, MR. MYXLPLTLK, BRAINIAC and superpowered
PHANTOM ZONE VILLAINS (Zod, Jax-**, Ursa, etc.) have everyone else
beat just for me personally. I'd truly relish a movie with any of those^^
                        as the villains.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't prefer a Supes movie WITHOUT
one of my fave Supes villains---Supes is so great a character that
an Intergalactic Superhero Western with TERRA MAN would please
me more than a SPIDEY flick with THE LIZARD at this point---I mean,
I love SPIDEY but SPIDEY's had a lot of attention and care---and
they gotta start getting prolific with the SUPES flicks at this point---

and, I belive they CAN with Supes' underrated rogues gallery.

                          I agree with KW.
Superman's Villians don't hold a candle to Batman's , Spider-Man's or even the Flash's Rouges. They have the best ones imo.

Even though I like Supes' baddies "the best".

I have to admit Spidey and Bats have much MORE to choose from---
and what's more, more to choose from that people are FAMILLIAR with
                            and are, therefore, "bankable".

Heck, HARLEY QUINN alone could probably carry a big budget feature
                            without Bat's help.

It might end up like the Catwoman movie---but, hey, I'd put some
                            money behind it

Now here's where I have to say as far as I'm concerned,

The Hulk as far as I'm concerned has the best villains, with Batman's SCRAPING underneath that, with Spiderman's rolling at a proud third.

Hulk's are cool simply because they all have great backstories.

Abomination - He resents Hulk due to himself being exposed to twice the level of Gamma rads to make him his namesake.

The Leader - a janitor who just happen to come in contact with Gamma rads to make him the textbook "Mastermind" villian, he even utterly destroyed a whole town to attempt to kill the Hulk.

The U-Foes - A team trying to dupicate the same fate of the FF and again getting hit with a high consentration of Gamma rads to be a superforce of utter evil.

Crusher "The Absorbing Man" Creel - What can't be said about him, he was a beast for alot of teams and he gave the Hulk a run for his money.

Juggs - Cain invented a fool-proof plan for beating the Hulk, and boy did he do it.
In the end, Hulk always made him wish he was never born.

One of the GREATEST VILLIANS THERE EVER IS, EVER WAS, AND EVER WILL BE.........

General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross - A normal man, with a HUGE grudge.
A 4 star General with a awesome weapon of peace spawining a "Monster" that cost him a star, a daughter, countless soliders, countless trillions
of taxpayer dollars, and the ear of the Pres of A. I mean Hulk is the reason his life went to poop. So he just made his life doing what he feels is his job alone, to Hunt the Hulk,

Proof to this, if anyone has the NEW Hulk movie. Watch the deleted/etended scenes,
Hurt captured the essence of him perfectly, and executed them perfectly.

Wanna know a real crappy thing about Ross?

Until Minimates decided to make a (chase) figure of him, there has never been any action figure of him at all. I made a custom 3" of him for the new movie just beacuse I know they won't. I even have a custom Mego of him too I made, cause I always wanted one and yet again I got skunked.

But I love the character, he's such an underrated villian.

Make no assumptions, he's a villian, he has lured his own daughter as bait and as a barganing chip to the Hulk a few times, yeah in the early days he wouldn't, but over time he became a desperate man.

Plus, when the Troyjan nation went through a search of dead people (in issue #330 first issue penciled by Toddy Mac was the death of Ross) it's matter replicator would revive the person who knew the most and hated him the most, so guess who got brought back to life? I mean he was revived for his hatred for the Hulk.

If that ain't evil, I don't know what the Hell is!

Let's not forget Stryker or the new team created to S&D the Hulk, "Gamma Corps" but they ended up hunting the real person who put them where they were, Stryker himself.

But Ross by far is the greatest villian I have ever seen. Besides "Dead/Evil Eye Benedict" from Last "Action Hero" but we're talking comics, Lex is a beast too. The biggest fan becoming the biggest antagonizer you will ever see this side of a comic page.

Plus what appeals to me is the fact if it's a good villian you can and will relate to them, and I totally relate to Ross, I don't agree, however I can relate.

Great post Sentry---I can see you feel the same way about the Hulk's
baddies as I do about Supes'.

I'm a big fan of 70s era Marvel characters as custom Megos.

In spite of the fact that Ross' image isn't as flashy as a gaudy costumed
person, still, I've always wanted a Ross figure modeled off of his look on
