TOTALLY agree on the Egyptian version versus the Space Cop with Hawkman...I think Hal Jordan and company handle that department quite well.

Chaykin, like Miller and sadly most comics writers/artists have gotten to the point where they should:

    A. Stop doing superhero comics.
    B. Stop trying to justify their hobby/interest by making it "kewl", "adult"
(HAH! Like ANY real adult would be interested most of the perverting of characters originally designed for kids of all ages, y'know?)
    C. Start another hobby...megos are quite nice!

Apparently DC doesn't agree, as the recent Special tries to do away with the Egypt origin in favor of the incoherent Thanagarian versions (btw, since when are there all these alien races on Rann & Thanagar like Lizard people etc. Did I miss something or did DC just screw up things again?).

Really disliked the year one Hawkgirl book. Expected better writing from Walt Simonson and I'm NOT a fan of Pervy Chaykin. Is it at all possible for Chaykin to draw a comic and NOT show a woman in her underwear? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Good Girl Art, but c'mon! Every single issue required HG's top to be torn off? Was that in the script?
I'm just really surprised there wasn't a scene with Hawkgirl on her knees under the desk, that bit usually makes it into every Chaykin book.

I agree on that- Frank Miller is another one who seems to only want to add adult elements to the books to justify their existance..."I'm the G-D Batman!" indeed.

Add Kevin Smith to that list too...that Batman Cacophany book was terrible. The Joker into sodomy? Please! And this book was not rated as mature either- I'm surprised there was no outcry from retailers. DC just seems to be trying to push the limit of what they can get away with - it WILL come back to bite them, and soon I think. All it's going to take is the wrong person in the right position to cause a fuss in the media.

It's as if there is a definite plan to drive the DC comics division into the ground. It's too lucrative to abolish, yet not profitable enough to warrant it's existance as anything other than a idea mill for other media. Maybe they're trying to drive it into another direction away from the regular comics and into another form, and this inch-by-inch destruction of the characters is meant to drive the older fans out so they can change things.

Good Lord, I sound like Fox Mulder. Do aliens exist? Is Didio a martian? Is that why he had J'onn J'onzz killed off?

        >Frank Miller is another one who seems to only want to add adult elements to the books to justify their existance

I think what I said about art in the "Alex Ross" thread applies to writing too. A lot of folks fall into a rut very quickly. Miller borrowed heavily from the 40's noir and 70's street level action genres; it's what he added to Daredevil way back when, and what made him so famous. But I think the problem is that this is ALL he can write. So when you put him on something more fantastic or whimsical you get weird stuff like his recent Batman scripts.

        >All it's going to take is the wrong person in the right position to cause a fuss in the media.

....although that usually INCREASES sales. As soon as something's bad for you EVERYONE wants to partake. Nobody cared about "Mortal Combat" until we found out it was evil....

Some answers to me own questions....

As I suspected, they want the thrill of a #1 issue instead of a comic that's been around for a while with numbering that reads #504.

          4) NOT very excited about Superman Exiled In Space again....been there, done that.
"World Without Superman" is the working title apparently...just semantics actually...sounds like the same ol', same ol'

          5) "Action Comics" WITHOUT Superman? Didn't work when they did the weekly years ago (yeah Supes was in it but he only had two pages per issue)....failed experiment. Superman IS Action Comics as far as I'm concerned.
Oooooooooo! We get the new Nightwing (possibly Conner Kent aka Superboy) and Flamebird (possibly Linda Danvers aka the ex-Supergirl). Yeah that's exciting....To me they're doing the opposite of what they're saying is their reasoning behind Adventure's new numbering: they want the established title to carry the new kids on the block cause they're not strong enough to carry their own title and it might cause confusion in the marketplace since they're cancelling that other "Nightwing".

          6) So apparently Geoff Johns' stellar run on "Action" and Superman comes to an end if he's doing a Legion book?
Johns and Gary Frank will be doing the 6-issue mini "Superman:Secret Origin". Sounds great to me but I can't help feeling a little cynical since they've already crapped on Mark Waid's "Birthright" from a few years ago and THAT was supposed to be the definitive retelling of Supes' origin. Dan DiDio and his lack of continuity editorial policies just irritate me.
