Ah yes but the film makers threw comic-book continuity out the window when they introduced MJ FIRST and then introduced Gwen in the 3rd installment (amongst other instances of ignoring 40+ years of continuity). Doesn't mean we can't enjoy Gwen for 4 and 5 before she dies and Pete hooks up with MJ again on the rebound.

I think Joe Quesada and Mephisto would beg to differ with you on that point.

You may not like Dunst (I personally thought she did a pretty good job) - but you can't make a Spiderman movie the character.

And as far as Gwen goes, it would be pretty hard to go backwards in the storyline....Gwen came before MJ, and we're pretty much past that point.
Well. i'm not a big fan of Cristine Dunst, but i agree with you pal, she did a good job as MJ...the problem was the Mj role in the movies...a sort of mix of three or four spidey's ol' flames personality in one (a bit of Betty Brant, a part of Liz Allen, a bit of Mj and a bit of Gwen Stacey)...anyway no problem untill they decided to put in the movie a silly version of Gwen Stacey (in the third movie she is rappresented as the prototype of the silly pretty blond girl...exactly the contrair of the comics character.honestly i think that with the third movie they really compromised the great job done with the two previous films...i mean..the first part of the third sound great with sandman...and the black costume...then...goblin 2, venom...what else? in less than an hour? with no time to go a little bit deeper into the characters?...hope they will not repeat the mistake to put too many baddies in a single movie...i think one or maximum two super baddies are enough....in a super heroes movie the bad is almost 50% of the movie...in fact i 've hated F4 because victor von doom (probably the greatest marvel baddie of ever) was reduced to this miserable role of a manager with a bad morality

        Pete married MJ?

I guess I forgot that moment.

Well write the character a better Fipp'in part rather than,.. " Poor Me,.. look at me,.. I am so Jelious that you are Spider-Man,.. I want People to see Me screwing Spider-Man .."

The characters lines & How Dunst Protrayed the character ,.. made MJ Seem like a Leech or a Parasite with the extreme jelious rage. It was Pathedic imo. If they can't write the character Well,.. then either.. bairly show her in the Movie,.. or get rid of the character. Spider-man Needs to be able to be Spider-man,.. without constantly worring about some non attractive High Matinence Piece of Arse.

Sorry Preacher,.. I just didn't care for the character.. & Though it was the one thing that ruined Spidey 2 & 3 .. Thought they coulda gotten away from some of that stuff a bit,.. Siper-Man is Arguably the Best Super Hero Movies & Franchises out there today,.. Lets keep it that way.

I liked Dunst in the first movie. She fit the party girl MJ with the darker side hidden pretty well. In the 2nd one, they began to go off course, and Dunst seemed bored. In the last one MJ was a totally unlikeable character, and Dunst seemed to be fulfilling her contractual obligations only. I think Bryce Howard's peppy Gwen only made Dunt's MJ seem that much more unlikeable.

If Dunst and MJ are in future movies, they need to work hard to make her likeable once more. I wouldn't mind seeing her taken off stage completely. Gwen was much more interesting in the last flick.

              ^^^ Agreed Chris...
I too Enjoyed MJ's role in the 1st Film... Then by Movie 2&3 that Whole character was Boring & way too much of the same. I haven't read too many Spider-man Books,.. Probably like about 35 or so of them,.. But there was only 1 three comicbook Story Arc amung them that Even Had Mary Jane in it. Lets do Something more,.. or re-write her a different direction in the movie ,.. rather than someone who is so dang Insecure ,.. & is constantly in need of being saved.

& I also Agree Gwen Made the Movie a bit more fun,.. Her character was full of Life in a Positive way,.. I found the character Refreshing from all that MJ BS... Perhaps thats why I appreciated the character a Bit More than MJ/Dunst.

I can't stand Toby Mac, or KDunst so they may as well be in the film together. Then I don't have to wonder about what I might be missing. After the 1st one, I didn't bother with 2 or 3. Sadly, I have grown used to being disappointed with at least half the comic based movies out there.

Spider-Man 4 needs extended "Mary Jane makes an Omlette" scenes, I mean a good half an hour of that, let's not even give the (4+) villains a plausible back story.

Honestly nothing against Dunst but I hope MJ is just a cameo in part 4.

I think they meant in the comic universe...not the movie universe.

Since the Gwen/MJ story line is messed up, they could try to get Dunst to do one more and kill off MJ instead of Gwen. If they did do it to at least try to fix the Gwen and MJ story even if it is backwards; movie fans who do not know the story would be shocked to see a character like MJ die at the hands of a villain. Dunst could then be written out of the movie and use Gwen as the lead.

Man, you could tell Raimi didn't want to do Venom, couldn't you? Spidey 3 is one of those movies that you could honestly cut down to probably an hour and a half and get a pretty good movie. Cut stupid scenes like that, the embarrassing "evil" Peter jazz club scene, and the whole "Sandman killed Uncle Ben" nonsense, and it wouldn't be nearly as bad.

After all his talk about never using Venom...this new picture...and
                        it's villains better deliver.

I was entertained by SPIDEY 3---but I think they kinda lost it
in that movie and I don't think Raimi should be let off the hook.

That's EXACTLY what she is in the comics. Go back and read McFarlane's issues where she is trying to get the modeling jobs and has to settle for lesser jobs. She get whiny, moody, depressed, flighty, and bubbly all at the same time. But..that's Mary Jane. That's the character they created.

And if you know the character, you know a lot of it has to do with her past (which comes out in the comics as well).

The point I was trying to make to BK is that you can't just flippantly get rid of her because you don't like how they have portrayed her character. She is a mainstay...like Lois Lane to Superman.

Getting rid of MJ would ruin the movie. Definitely make her a lesser character (I like Palitoy's "omlette" idea ), but don't write her out completely. The Spiderman Universe would be missing a key ingredient...
