Many of you know that one of my hobbies is trying to identify who drew what when it comes to comic art used in licensing. This stems from my days of youth, where, even before I could read, I would try and identify artists work to previous work I had seen.
Last night, after we watched Green Arrow's origin on Smallville, I read Andrew "Green Arrow's First Case" which first detailed Ollie's origin about being castaway on a desert island. The art was by Jack Kirby no less, during his brief run on the GA strip.
I was reading the story to Andrew, with him looking over my shoulder at the pages, when he mentioned "Green Arrow looks like the old Captain America".
My heart swelled with pride as I told him that's because both were drawn by Jack Kirby! And that Kirby had co-created Captain America, as well as most other major Marvel characters, and Darkseid and all related characters at DC. He recognized Kirby's art from the old "Tales of Suspense" tales I read him from the Essential Captain America volumes, and videotapes I have of the old 60s Marvel toons!
I think he could come home with a note that he's been bumped to the 5th grade and I wouldn't be as proud!!!
