Yeah, admittedly, it can be ultra-difficult to match a skin tone (especially when it's a manufactured skin tone), but, as I said, you did a nice job. As for your gloss versus non gloss issue, if I run across something like this on a ceramic piece I'm working on, depending on what the subject matter is, I'll usually let nature decide for me. In a world like POTA, the facial skin would likely be more prone to having a sheen whereas the hair would remain matte with just enough highlights and lowlights to convey depth and texture.
Two hairs is about all you really can use, especially to put a huge amount of detail into so small a space. I've got probably five or six 00010 brushes that have a tip size about the diameter of the pointy end of a straight pin and I do have a couple of brushes where I have basically scalped them down to one or two hairs, basically just enough to get me a dot of color for an eye reflection. As I said your eyes are superb!
