Detail work and color palette are (mostly) spot-on (and I say mostly only because, in reviewing some images of Urko online, his facial coloring seems to lean a little darker with some gray tones mixed in whereas yours has the lighter and warmer tones of a character like Cornelius). Other thing I would have pulled back on would be the use of the gloss varnish or sealant (not sure which it is), as most apes' or gorillas' heads and hair would likely not be that reflective ('course, it could just be a camera thing, I dunno). Anyhoo, regardless of my nit-picking, still a really nice paint job. You did an outstanding job on the eyes and the orbital cavity area, a area that is hard to get looking just right. JOOC, what size brush did you use for the eyes?sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.Comment

It's funny you mention those coloration and gloss issues...I went back and forth on that for quite a while. First go around the hair was pretty matte and didn't look right to me. I ended up using semi gloss on both the hair and face based on this photo. As for the coloring...that was a very difficult thing to nail down. I looked at as many shots as I could find and it varied wildly from shot to shot, indoor lighting versus outdoor lighting etc. As you said, sometimes it looked more gray...probably depended on who did the makeup that day also. I eventually went with a screen cap from the restored DVD set which I (think) captured the color/sheen most accurately in bright lighting. I just hope the client is happy...they always leave it up to me. I definitely appreciate your input emeralknight47. Oh, as for the brush size...just like Bob Ross...two hairs and some air. Tiny, tiny little thing.Detail work and color palette are (mostly) spot-on (and I say mostly only because, in reviewing some images of Urko online, his facial coloring seems to lean a little darker with some gray tones mixed in whereas yours has the lighter and warmer tones of a character like Cornelius).
