    Flash Gordon!

I always loved the Mego Flash Gordon series but as a kid I just had no idea where they fit in. They didn't look anything like the Flash Gordon in the movie, I just assumed that they were based on the old time comic that I never read. I just wished that they were 8".

Sam Jones is Flash Gordon to me. Somehow I missed the wonderful Filmation animated series when it first aired back in the late 70's. I only caught up with it recently and I'm glad I did, it's pretty amazing. Flash has been done quite a bit in a custom Mego form but I thought I'd give it a shot.

    Flash Gordon

The head is from eBay but is also available from Dr. Mego. It was painted by me and is on a Zica Type-S body.
The clothes are from CTVT. They are jumpsuits that have been cut & modified.
    Boots are from CAT
Gold trim is from Jo-Ann's. It's some sort of fabric that is specifically marketed to cosplay people. It's great stuff to work with.
The neck trim was fabricated out of .015" styrene and painted gold.
The pistol was found at a flea market and the sword at Party City.
    Box is by the Toyroom

I wanted to do something as little different than the standard yellow trim, so I went with gold. I think it stands out better in the box this way. If I had gone with yellow, he would get lost in the background of the box with his yellow hair & trim.

The trim is on there for life with fabric tape. At first it was difficult for me to work with but I am quickly getting the hang of it.

The sword is an appetizer pick. My grandparents had them in our bar when I was a kid. I used to use them with my Megos back in the day as weapons. I have a Mego Flash sword & dagger in the parts bin but they are a little too large to use with an 8" figure. I got the sword at Party City. You get like 50 for $2.99 in different colors. I was hoping that I could find them in chrome, no luck. I painted it silver and left the grip of the handle red. This allows the figure to hold the sword without marring the paint and it looks cool too. The pistol is from a Playmates Klingon I found at a flea market last week. I felt with it's gold coloration and almost art deco design it was perfect for my Flash. To me, It looks like something you could find on Mongo.

Big or small, it's one of my favorite Mego head sculpts.

Thanks to The Toyroom for the box and thank you for looking!

Beautiful work as always! This one really pops. I love the gold trim instead of the plain yellow, and the use of the Party City sword pick is brilliant!

Beautiful! I used to love the Filmation series. I remember the Buster Crabbe series from waaaaay back in the day on the public TV channel.

Excellent work! That looks shelf bought. Love the paints on the head and the outfit is excellent. Great execution. The box rounds it all out wonderfully!

                        Fantastic flash !!!
I never understood why he was originally done in 9" and not 8",he fits the 8" universe perfectly.
                        Great paints and suit.
