        From their FAQ:

Tell me more about how the custom action figure heads look and feel.

The heads are created one layer at a time, which means you can very subtly see the layers when looking closely at the figure. They also have a slightly rough texture to them, as opposed to the smoother finish on traditional mass produced action figure heads made of plastic. The heads turn left and right freely, allowing you to pose them however you want. Sometimes, during the creation process, the head can end up having small black circles around the forehead or face area. This is unfortunately a by product of the process, which cannot be avoided. See the picture two questions below for an example. A figure having these small marks on their face is NOT a valid reason for returning your figure.

The heads are absolutely 3D prints. The detail (such as color) is part of the printing.

              Shadows

So the 3D printer is picking up shadows around the eyes and Figures
is not compensating for it. So you may get a figure that looks like
he didn't pay the loan shark - and that is not returnable?

I think it's great that you and your son get to share such an awesome experience and will always have the figures to commemorate this moment in time.

                -However-

I do have to agree with Doc that the QC issues would make me a bit paranoid. While I don't understand the finer points of 3D printing I do know of photoshop and its marvelous ways to adjust shadows and such. Considering the nature (and price) I would think the Figures Inc folks would be more inclined to put in the time to ensure customer satisfaction.

What's the material if it's not plastic ?

Can it be ruined quickley if you're not careful ?

Can it be resanded and repainted ?

Can it take putty if you want to resculpt parts ?

                        That's pretty cool! Congrats!

All though I think it's total B.S. that won't accept returns when they are the ones who messed up the figure. They should at least offer a partial reimbursement.

Rather than get custom figures made of yourselves I think they way to go is get custom figures made of obscure fan-fave charatcers, (obscure so you're bot turned down when you send in the order-unless they don't care who you want a head made out of).

When you get the Mob-interrogated, bruise-colored, head, cast it and make un-bruised colored heads. Go into business for yourself selling copies of heads to customizers. Make back your investment and then some. It remains to be seen if this will catch on tho. Andgor,(?), toys offered this service for 12" figures and I never heard it took off.

It wouldn't work. The printout heads rely on the photo for detail. The head underneath is very generic and rough in texture. You're cast wouldn't come out well. I was researching this process for a job a few years ago.

I'm pretty sure Andgor was actually sculpting each head by hand. I can't imagine the time and effort is worth the money. Well, I guess it wasn't.

Just a quick few follow ups to sosme of the comments:

I only placed the order on thursday - I believe the figure shipped out saturday or will do so on monday. So I have not held or touched the head just yet. - They were nice enough to send me the picture because I was so excited about it - to hold me over till the figure gets here. So once it gets here I will be glad to answer some of the other questions.

also to be honest - I did not think it would be a perfect copy - i knew there would be some flaws - I mean really - they have made 100's of Luke skywalker figures over the years - how many head sculpts really are dead on for Mark Hamill. But in this case I think the head had passed any of my expectations.

also a side note - I have been buying or making custom figures for a long time - as most if not all of you. A normal custom figure costs me 75.00-150.00 on average to make or buy depending on the parts involved (i do not paint heads - so i have to pay for that, and most of the time I get the my suits from Mike B and Brian L) so might cost me a little more than you handy guys. So when I saw the price tag of 130.00 for the 2 pack - for me and my son really I did not think it was bad at all. I Just bought a custom venom - cost me 150.00 - to pay 130.00 for me and my boy - Priceless. In this case I did not think it a high price - how many of us have 100's of customs? I have 7 different captain americas - and a handfull of spidys - Might as well have at least 1 Vinny in the set

My son will turn 3 in sept. - I showed him the picture and asked him "michael who is that?" - His eyes let up and said "Daddy" I pointed to the little one and asked the same he said "Michael" - He then says "daddy - your a toy! - me a toy to! I want to play with it"

That to me was an awsome 2-5 mins of quality time -

I wish I could give more on the other questions but since I do not make them - I'm not much help. I will take more pictures, and answer some of the other questions when it is in my hands (such as feel and stuff)

I just not want you all to think I was not answering them - I just do not know just yet
again I will get as much of that info as I can as soon as it gets here.

Looks great! We'll worth the $130. Great job and thanks for being the first and publishing the results.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.
