Rather than get custom figures made of yourselves I think they way to go is get custom figures made of obscure fan-fave charatcers, (obscure so you're bot turned down when you send in the order-unless they don't care who you want a head made out of).
When you get the Mob-interrogated, bruise-colored, head, cast it and make un-bruised colored heads. Go into business for yourself selling copies of heads to customizers. Make back your investment and then some. It remains to be seen if this will catch on tho. Andgor,(?), toys offered this service for 12" figures and I never heard it took off.

That's pretty cool!
Congrats!
All though I think it's total B.S. that won't accept returns when they are the ones who messed up the figure. They should at least offer a partial reimbursement.Leave a comment:

What's the material if it's not plastic ?
Can it be ruined quickley if you're not careful ?
Can it be resanded and repainted ?
Can it take putty if you want to resculpt parts ?Leave a comment:

I think it's great that you and your son get to share such an awesome experience and will always have the figures to commemorate this moment in time.
-However-
I do have to agree with Doc that the QC issues would make me a bit paranoid. While I don't understand the finer points of 3D printing I do know of photoshop and its marvelous ways to adjust shadows and such. Considering the nature (and price) I would think the Figures Inc folks would be more inclined to put in the time to ensure customer satisfaction.Leave a comment:

Shadows
So the 3D printer is picking up shadows around the eyes and Figures
is not compensating for it. So you may get a figure that looks like
he didn't pay the loan shark - and that is not returnable?
"That looks like you...if you dated Ike Turner."
From their FAQ:
Tell me more about how the custom action figure heads look and feel.
The heads are created one layer at a time, which means you can very subtly see the layers when looking closely at the figure. They also have a slightly rough texture to them, as opposed to the smoother finish on traditional mass produced action figure heads made of plastic. The heads turn left and right freely, allowing you to pose them however you want. Sometimes, during the creation process, the head can end up having small black circles around the forehead or face area. This is unfortunately a by product of the process, which cannot be avoided. See the picture two questions below for an example. A figure having these small marks on their face is NOT a valid reason for returning your figure.Leave a comment:

The heads are absolutely 3D prints. The detail (such as color) is part of the printing.Leave a comment:
