    Madman Custom

    Hi,

This is my first custom that was more than just a kit bash. I've been slowly rebuilding some figures from original and repro parts. I started this particular project about 12 years ago, using a Famous Covers Daredevil figure and one of the heads from a Graphitti Designs Big Blast Madman figure.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to complete it before a move separated me from the work in progress. Fast forward to this year when I stumbled upon the partially modified head. With the resurgence in Megos in the last several years, I thought I would go for a Mego Madman.

I am still working on Madman's costume, but I fell in love with the character dressed up as a PI. On a side note, if you aren't familiar with the character or his creator (Michael Allred), you should consider checking it out. He's has featured Megos in his comics for years. And I would not be surprised to see official figures in the future.

What I am most proud of is the way i put it together. I used a white Dr Mego body and a series of rubber washers and a nylon nut and bolt. I hollowed out the solid head and imbedded the nylon bolt inside. I then threaded the washer onto the nylon bolt and screwed it into the head. I went through all of that because I wanted to be able swap the head onto another body like any standard Mego.

I am going to be doing the same mode with a Toyfare exclusive Unmasked Madman. I will take photos of the actual progress on that one, something I forgot to do with this one.

Thanks for all your posts and for welcoming new posters such as myself.

Thanks. The Joker had a disembodied head watching the show with him, but I figured it was a little too grim for my first post.

                Finalized Madman Costumes

So I finally sat down with all the necessary parts to finalize my Madman custom. (Thanks Lazer Mego and Dr. Mego!)

I had a number of pieces that I was sitting on as I waited to assemble all the parts I needed. I also highlight some customs i'd already finished (Indiana Jones) and something from some leftover parts (Joker.)

You can check out the series of photos chronicling last night's customizing here:

And if you have questions about any of the photos, you can click the "i" for more detailed notes on most of the photos.

Thanks again for all your support everyone!

Nice work. Any chance we can see your nylon bolt and washer design?

Absolutely! I was hesitant to pull it apart again initially. But the unmolested head worked okay so I will pull my modified one apart tomorrow and post a bunch of photos.

Love it! i bought the same Madman figure for the same reason. Just, uh, never got around to doing it. Looks pretty sweet!

Sorry it took me so long to get this up here.
Below are two photos of the nylon assembly.

I discovered afterwards that the washer is a bit too thick, and am going to pick up a smaller one to make getting the head on and off a bit easier.
