The "Great" film star Basil Carlo never really did much of mention in acting circles, mostly playing one off, and background characters in plays and old movies. His only real claim to fame was his appearance in a little film called " Dread Castle", where he played a nefarious character called the "Terror". Basil enjoyed his brief fling with fame...maybe a little too much, as he ruined his burgeoning career with one scandal after another.
Hearing of a remake, Basil went a little loopy, and began murdering the stars of the new film. This earned him two things, the name Clayface, and a meeting with the Dynamic Duo of Batman and Robin who brought the maniac to justice (more than once actually)!
Bartholomew Jehoshaphat Karlo is the Grandson and heir of the late Basil. Bart never was one for work, study, or the pursuit of excellence. Nope, instead he happily lived a life of leisure, living off of the residuals from the seemingly unending books and movies about Basil, that his status as a nemesis of Batman brought him. Then...as usually happens, people began to forget about Clayface "1" (as he was now referred to), as other villians "usurped" the name. It didnt help that they had flashy powers and cool costumes, unlike Basil's silly old mask. The money pit started to empty...and Bart did have one expensive hobby...Gambling! Rather quickly, Bart found he owed a lot of money to a certain Gotham crime boss known as Sterling Silversmith! Bart had to do something, and fast!
Bart decided to don his Grandpa's old costume, and make a couple of semi-public appearances. Brandish a knife, laugh like a maniac, and then run back into the darkness...surely that would kick start the Basil Karlo publicity machine? ...Then Bart remembered something. He had sold the "Clayface" mask to a local comic shop guy to pay down previous gambling debts. No problem....Break into the comic shop, steal back the mask...and Bingo!! Clayface gets back in the press, and Bart makes some moola. Unfortunately things didnt go well for Bart. The comic shop owner caught him red handed stealing the mask. In the scuffle Bart accidentally killed the shop owner, and ran off into the shadows.
Bart's little plan sort of worked. By the next day the name Clayface was on everyones lips. Turns out so was Bart's, as a security camera had recorded everything. Bart/Clayface was now a wanted man.....and Bart knew full well Batman would be after him. Bart decided only Silversmith could protect him. Bart owed him a rather large sum of money, and if Sterling wanted to see any of it, he would have to keep Bart alive.....wouldnt he?
(Sorry folks, pics arent the best. Kind of a quickie project tonight. I've been working on Clayface for a bit (including a better mask), but Sterling was a quick snap together of parts from the bin.)
