Here's another one of the figures from the Flash Gordon series I've been working on. I based this Vultan off the Alex Raymond comic and somewhat off the 70s Filmation character.
I retooled and then recasted a CTVT Space 1999 Mentor head by sculpting a larger beard and a helmet. I thought the Mentor head is especially appropriate because he was played by Brian Blessed who also played Vultan in the 1980 Flash Gordon movie.
The body armor is from the CTVT Knight series as are most of the accessories. I made new shoulder armor and then casted it out of resin. The wings were an issue. I originally wanted to use Doc Megos foam wings, but when they arrived, I noticed they were really thick and had a strange edge to them. I then wanted to use DC Universe Hawkman wings (which I still might), but I haven't purchased him yet. I ended up building a wing pattern in PhotoShop and putting it on matboard. I added a rivet so the wings can open up. They're pretty Megolike, I think.
