I am hoping someone here can help me. I am looking for a picture or the issue of Batman / Detective Comics for a costume worn by Jason Todd. As I recall, he wore this costume only once on a cold day in Gotham. I am pretty sure this was pre-crisis. Basically it was a Robin costume with long sleeves and pants. Anyone else remember this one or know the issue?

Yeah, but I liked that costume. I was kind of hoping he'd keep it. I wrote a Back Issue article on Jason's history, both pre and post-Crisis, and I asked his creator, Gerry Conway if it was ever intended for him to keep the new suit. He said no, but I thought Don Newton created a nice updated look for Robin. Similar to the Earth 2 suit, and echoing a bit of Tim Drake's later outfit.

& Here I thought the 1st time Jason Met Batman, was in Batman, when Jason was Caught Boosting The BatMobile Wheels.
... BTW, I though Jason Had Black Hair.... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

^Jason initially had strawberry blond hair, and worked for the Hill Bros. Circus (where Deadman worked as well). Dick was working there, in addition to being Robin with both Batman and the NTT at the time! Dick met the Flying Todds, and Jason's mother Trina accidentally stumbled upon Bruce and Dick's secret IDs. Dick asked the Todds to keep tabs on some mysterious folks poking around the circus. Turns out they were working for Killer Croc (during his introductory storyline). Croc murdered the Todds, and Jason went to live with Bruce.
Jason later dyed his hair to appear as Robin to help Batman against the Joker (as mentioned in my post above). Although Batman chastised Jason for stealing Dick's identity, he didn't ask him to wash the dye out of his hair, and he never did. Who's Who didn't even bother to mention his original hair color, even pre-Crisis. It just kind of went away.
Few folks remember the original, nice Dick Grayson clone Jason Todd.

What Chris laid out was Jason Todd's pre-Crisis origin...the tire-stealing thief that had a shady mom and got whacked by the Joker is the post-Crisis version...Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!Comment

^Yeah, Jason got a whole-sale makeover thanks to Max Allan Collins, who also had Batman fire Dick as Robin, then pick up an untrained juvie to be his new Robin. And Denny O'Neil wondered why everyone hated the new Jason?
Gerry Conway was really trying to recreate the early 40s feel in his Batman comics, so he stuck close to Dicks' origin for the first version of Jason. Maybe a bit too close, but even the characters acknowledged how history was repeating itself. Sort of like Wally West's origin being exactly like Barry Allen's.
It's all in Back Issue #48, still available from TwoMorrows!
