    Spray paint *off* of vinyl?

Not quite OT for here, but I figured the type of knowledge I need is concentrated in the customs-related forums

I pulled out a a costume for Halloween (pics will be posted, I promise) and found that the black vinyl of the costume jacket (fake leather jacket) got pushed up against an item with silver spray paint, and the jacket now has silver spots and marks all over the back and on the backs of the sleeves. Best suggestions for getting it off? I'm afraid to just start using acetone or something in case it starts eating the jacket. Is covering it up with black vinyl paint my best bet?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I'd just repaint it. Solvents would just smear the silver and damage the vinyl.

Don't try anything harsh, esp. if it's pleather. But you may get results from rubbing alchohol on a q-tip. Isopropyl alcohol is a surprisingly good solvent that is fairly safe & evaporates without an oily residue.

Thanks Pengy! The alcohol works great, and the pleather seems intact in the spots I tried it out on so far. Would have never thought the alcohol would get through the spray paint, so great suggestion.

I've posted a preview pic of the suit in the Halloween costume thread over in General Buzz . . . I really appreciate the help!

Hey, glad that worked out for you. Now I can try to get out some silver paint rubs caused by homemade Wolverine claws!

Alcohol is also great for cleaning grime, hand-oils, and vinyl exudate from Mego heads.
