    Using Magnets in your figures?

I cast a pair of T2 feet and broke a" Neo Magnet " in half and put the pieces in the feet as I poured . I learned the hard way that id you do this make the feet in two seperate molds far away.
Not strong enough for a Spidey, DEFINATELY not strong enough for a Batman THROUGH the boot. I cant keep a nude T2 from sliding right down the fridge.

I was also faced with a hat problem lately and remebered the awesome Palisades Kermit as Indy. Kermit had a magnet inside his head and hat to keep the fedora on. That was great !!!!!

Anybody have any luck out there?
You KNOW you need a magnetic 8" spidey.

not sure what a neo magnet is. I got some really strong ones from Joann's that are about the size of a bigger buttoncell battery and are silver metallic. Used them for Captain America's shield, to hold it to his glove.

Strong little suckers, these neodymium magnets! Their power goes through cloth, but work best when they are exposed. Still experimenting with mine:

How 'bout 'Rare Earth' magnets, or are those the same as neodymium?

I think they are the same.

Yeah neo magnets are supposed to be really stronger than your regular magnets. The package should tell you that it is neo. If it does not say anything about being neo than you pretty much know it is not a really strong magnet.

I have been experimenting with magnets from time to time myself. I use the Neos because they are stronger. As Jess eluded to above the magnet is best to be exposed though as if anything stands in the way will decrease the power of the magnet.

I am thinking that my next move it to pour the feet molds with a low heat metal. Then use a magnet as a base plate to stand the figure on. Maybe try a flat sheet magnet like you see with business cards from time to time that people can stick on their fridge.

My logic of thinking is that the metal will weigh just enough to give the figure a good strong standing position as well. Just my thought.

I have a magnetic 8" Spidey with enhanced articulation. He needed more ankle articulation to "climb" the fridge better.

What did you use? How about his hands?

I thought Neo was a name brand. I also thought it would help with display. Seriously.

I poured some Mugato feet earlier with a whole magnet in each paw . Havent attatched a body yet.

Since we love molding so much < I wonder if theres a way to melt a metal pour it then magnetize it. ?

That is an interesting thought. I never thought about melting a magnet before until now. Not sure of the melting point. Obviously it can be done. I see many different shapes and sizes of magnets available.

I heated some "super strong magnets" up on the stove burner to melt into feet, and they lost their magnetism. I drilled holes to glue the magnets into for the feet. The hands, I used magic sculpt to hold the magnets in.

That sucks to hear that. In theory it sounded like a great idea. So much for plan A. Anyone have a plan B on melting magnets so that they do not lose their magnetism?

I wonder how the big companies do this? Anyone?

Could you mold the parts in metal, then magnetize them with a coil of wire and a car battery? If they ever lose their magnetism, you could always rinse and repeat as needed, so long as it does indeed work.

I put half a Neo Mag in the human feet : BUT on the Mugato feet I put a whole .

He cant really stick like my old Magnetic Batman . . . YET.

                              But . . . . . Spiderman doesnt HAVE ape feet.
