Well I'll be a mix. Many of the customs I want to do, I want to do for very strange reasons. Retro is not everyone's bag - I get that.
It's like this: Some people are into Frank Frazzetta, other people into Monet. Personally, I find it really gratifying to think about how Frank Frazetta would have illustrated a victorian era sunday lakeside picnic just as much as I like to think about how monet would have painted Conan the King decapitating a demigod.
I really want to get to a 70's toy style Gaiman Sandman figure run - a lot of other things I just don't see them doing. Where the obscurity factor comes in is I do think I'll be more likely now to do the interesting background characters without having a burning need to hit the Top 40. The middle range characters - Dr Fate, The Demon, Deadman, Blue Beetle, Mr Miracle... they'll be a bit dicey. I'll make Marv the Pumpkinhead... sure. Some others I may wait on to see if Mattel meets me in the middle.
Then again I'd kind of like to do a ghostbusters Demon Dog now, where I had no interest before. I want to do a Man-bat just because he's so flipping cool (and I already have the finished body design), but I won't be touching any of the core characters for custom projects.

Well, since I don't like the Head Sculpt on the Mattel Flash...I'll be keeping my Custom.

I WOULD say that I'd be a fool to make or buy any DC customs until the line ends, but then I realize I just bought a Brave and Bold Aquaman from BK...

But then again, I doubt that DC is going to make a Brave and Bold Retro styled line (though they SHOULD - perfect match between style of figure and target audience). I had to stop myself from buying Brian Leitner's gorgeous customs because I don't want to get someone Mego never made and have Mattel release one soon after. Don't know why since a good custom is its own reward, but that's how I feel.

I have multiple customs of single characters already, so they just go with the rest of my figures. I might decide I don't want or need a custom of some characters (Two Face, Captain Cold, etc), but otherwise the new figures are just additions to the collection.

Excellent point. I was thinking the same thing. I'm surprised Mattel is making a Guy Garnder so anything is possible.

I'm luving the Matty figs but I have a Brian Leitner Flash that is amazing. It's more MEGO looking than the Mattel figures. There is room for 2 Flash figures in my collection...I think but if one goes it isn't going to be Brian's figure.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

I wouldn't trash any Flash ideas until you hold a Mattel one in your hand. I haven't gotten Wave 2 at my Toys R Us yet. I'm keeping my Flash and GL customs regardless.

I haven't made any customs of figures that Mattel has made so far, but if I did and the versions were too similar, I'd probably just keep the Mattel figure carded.
