The outfit on the Flatt Sinestro is nice, but the headsculpt isn't really all that impressive. I haven't really followed Charlie's work that closely, but from looking a the link that was posted, I can see what is meant by hit-or-miss. There are some truly impressive figures, and there are some that have great outfits, but the sculpt accuracy is lacking.
And as always, I am more impressed with custom figures that look like they belong next to vintage Megos. They don't have to be as cheesy as some of the originals were, but there's a certain something that makes the difference between a cool 8" figure and an awesome Mego custom.
Hey! Where's the waiter with the water for my daughter?

Flatt was a pioneer....but like all pioneers they are eventually surpassed by those who come later. It's like saying anything Henry Ford produced is better than the vehicles that are cranked out of the car industry today. Pound for pound, you're getting a better deal price-wise and a better likeness IMO from guys like the aforementioned Type 3 Toys, Black Knight, Captain Mego and other guys.

I agree with a lot of what Hugh wrote in his last post....There has never been anything about Flatt's work that would make me change my mind if I saw/held one in person. The majority of the headsculpts IMO are deal-breakers for me....it doesn't matter how detailed the costuming or accessories are if the head blows....

Definitely...that's a lot closer to Adams' work than the Flatt ones that have been posted

All i've got is this crappy scanned photo from the toyfare issue but you can get the point of how the figure looks, and its not that i'm bashing you in any way, utmost respect for what you do, i wasnt excited over the "new megos" maybe its because the sculpts are meant to look like megos, maybe if i saw more moderized versions of say sinestro or green lantern i would like them more. I think the green arrow sculpt on the new retro figs is the best out of the bunch but i hear they just made a few changes to the mego green arrow head.
I admit that Sinestro is one of his better sculpts. Not all of them had problems and it's even possible that the ones that look wrong to me are early sculpts, I wouldn't know when they were done. I don't feel he captured the character in the sculpt, but that's a matter of style and my comments had nothing to do with that.

Yes, the "new Mego" sculpts were meant to look like they could have been originals, which is to say that they have docile expressions, limited paint detail, etc. They also had to be approved by DC. Green Arrow is the only figure out so far, so the jury is out as to which is the best of the bunch until the rest are released.

I hope I don't come off like I'm bashing Charlee. His work was what I strived to achieve when I first saw it. It inspired me to learn sculpting, molding and casting, sewing, kitbashing....everything!! I searched like crazy to find the Wizard magazine where he showed step by step how to create Super Soldier because I missed it when it came out. I have other sculptors that I look up to now (Like Tom & Joy studios. Google them and check out the Robot Chicken sculpts they do! BTW, I can see anatomical mistakes in their stuff too! :P ) but Charlee was the first.

Wow, did not know who did the headsculpts for Mattel. Congrats. I personally prefer your look to the sometimes constipated look of the Flatts. Your Sinestro is dead perfect. There are several customizers on this board that have outpaced Charlee, Type3Toys, BK and Captain Mego come to mind.

Thank you, but I didn't sculpt all of them, there are a number of people working on them.

Let me say that Andy Covalt (CrimsonGhost) has gone not only amazing work
altering vintage MEGO sculpts like Superman and Green Arrow, but his Sinestro
is the favorite of our contact at Mattel - and he has seen a LOT of professional
            sculpting.

Hey Anarchy ....I dont know why it seems to be ok to bash me and my work but thats fine. You might know alot about charlee but nothing about me. First off I sculpt a lot of my headsi. And yes I do realise you are trying to protect your investment in charlees work but dont bash me to do so. Im am tired of the russ lies about him doing all my work. I was here a long time before Russ and was posting pics of my work in progress ...such as my body and sculpts. You can bash me all you want but that wont stop my work. And it takes nothing away from my talent as a sculptor. I just finished a sculpt not too long ago for a comic book company. Not bad for a ****** like me A. I almost never defend myself or my work but enough is enough. thanks pal.

Thanks Derek IM AM SO SORRY I have to act like this today. But it seems some people feel they have to bash others work to bring themselfs up and or promote their fav. artist.

BUT I FEEL HIS COMMENT WAS TO BRING DOWN MY WORK AND MAKE ME LOOK LIKE A JERK IF I DEFEND MY WORK.

Capt Mego, I'm not terribly familiar with your work, but those sculpts are very nice. Cool Batman figure - Is he 8"? It's obviously not a Mego body, so I'm assuming you built it from scratch.

Yep body built from scracth. Ty for the complament. Its true in the begining I started with body parts from all over. But over time I sculpted new parts till it was all mine. Batman was the final product after years of work...But remeber I dont come here and bash others,,I dont boast or drag others down to build myself up but enough is enough.
