You could buy an Art Asylum Classic Trek figure and take its weapons/tricorder. These are still in stores - I see them at TRU all the time. Though I'm unsure if the communicator closes and would fit in a doc mego belt:
As for the Playmates gear, the 9" stuff is too big, but the 6" stuff is just about perfect..especially the Klingon disruptor! Lots of great tools and props for Sickbay and Engineering too.
Problem with the 6" stuff is a lot of it was rainbow colored...purples, reds, oranges, etc..Doesnt bother me, but I know it bugs some folks.
By the way, that tricorder looks fantastic!!!
The Playmate stuff is super, you just have to know which to use. I use the 3-4" phaser/communicators, and the 9" tricorders (I just remove the wide silver strap and glue on a nice black rubber cord.
I was just in ToysRUs today. They had a lot of Trek stuff on clearance. Has no one ever made a mold of these and repro'd them in black? Could that be done with Sculpey? I have no clue. I bought Sculpey once but I've decided I'm going to have to farm everything out to get my project done. Maybe for Christmas...
