Me buying Ada's heads from you isn't the issue Ian. I just want to say, hey everyone, support artists by buying their works from them and paying fair prices. And it's okay for people to think about how they get the stuff they want.

And I also wanted to say, Hey BK, you're very welcome. It was Ian's "hypocrisy" remark that engaged me as much as the issue of shrinking/selling Ada's work without permission. I guess when I said 'to each is own' it WAS a little dishonest and I should have had the guts to say what I really think, which is that I think that what you are doing, Ian, sucks. And I can't believe you have the audacity to link to her website and offer to sell her stuff.

And BK, I don't know why I had the impulse to defend you.

p.s. there is a difference between what you are doing and others are doing and I think I made that point, whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

pps. if anyone wants Ada's head, maybe they should consider contacting her. I may be mistaken but I thought she shrunk this head.

Chiming in late here and I hope someones still listening. I had put a call out for a Lee Majors/Steve Austin head. I am and was a BIG fan of the show. So if anyone is making them, I too want one!!!! Also can someone send or post the link to Ada's site. I think her stuff is incredible and would like to add her to my list of Mego related suppliers!!!

I posted the link to show what the original head looks like. If people would rather spend $25 on a 1/6 head and shrink it themselves that's fine by me. I'm just saying that i have a 8" scale mould already.

And i don't recast her heads and sell them. As i said before, i buy the head and shrink it for my own use, if someone asks to buy a copy from me because they don't want the hassle of shrinking it themselves why shouldn't i sell them one?

I've bought and shrunk quite a few of Ada's heads and this is the first i've offered to sell one so don't tell me i suck.

BTW you know they are 1/6 scale ( 12" ) right?

If you want one pm me. I'm prepared to trade if you have problems with my selling you one.

Because you did not ask her permission and it's rude.

It sucks that you say you're just doing what everyone does when that is not true at all, nor is it fair to anyone else.

Regarding her making them, I seem to remember John Mic saying he bought one from her.... and i thought she sold some on ebay but.... my memory could be wrong.

Anyway, Ian, of course you can do what you want but I am also free to post my opinion here... just as you are "free" to sell other people's work. And if people feel good about acquiring stuff like this, of course, they too are "free" to do so.

It is this very kind of thing that has made me question selling my own work....

A little while ago I contacted Ada asking if it was possible for her to shrink her 12" Jack Lord head to 8" scale. I got a rather curt reply back saying something like "No, I don't shrink, you want it Mego scale, you buy it and you shrink it or you pay for an 8" sculpt". Well, I am not set up to shrink heads and wasn't ready for the time and expense for shrinking or for a commisioned sculpt when the 12" has already been done.

Maybe this was after she found out people here were shrinking her stuff...

Ada does not shrink or enlarge heads. She is aware of it but she is not set up to do so. She is a bit curt, but maybe that's because of the language barrier. I have her e-mail address if you would like it, PM me.

Ada is a testy/touchy artist...but I still look up to her.

I'm sure she doesn't mind if you buy one head from her and shrink it or do whatever with THAT head. I doubt that she is ok with anyone making copies of that head for others, shrunken or not. Because for each copy that you duplicate for sale or other gain, that's one less person who is buying something from her.

Actually, I would be angry if I paid Ada $250.00 to sculpt a one-of-a-kind head for me, only to look on her web site and find she is selling copies of that head for $25.00. She was commissioned by me to do a sculpt for me and it should be my decision what I wanted to do with it after that. So she has already gotten paid for all of the sculpts on her website and the copies she makes and sells are just frosting.

I think she has a better deal than a sculptor being commissioned by Hasbro or Mattel to do a sculpt. The sculptor doesn't get to sell copies on his website because the toy company now owns it. He doesn't get any money when the toy he sculpted is sold (unless maybe he gets a royalty after so many units, but I doubt it.) and no one worries about copying, shrinking and selling those toys. And they shouldn't, just as no one should worry about copying a head they buy from Ada. She's been paid on commission already, she didn't sculpt first and then try to sell.

Frankly, I'm fairly sure that there are a number of sculptors she hires to sculpt heads. It would explain the differences in quality and well as her quick turn-around time.
Expectation is the death of discovery.

You know...I think you're right about that!! Sometimes her work is so dead accurate it's scary, and other times, woof woof!!

I'm getting flak for offering to sell someone a cast from a mould which i invested time and money in to make for my own use but what about my specically being asked to re-mould, enlarge and shrink her Peter burke head and shrink her Catwoman head?
I just wanted to ask, seeing as jessica made this point about speaking to Ada, yet last year her and a couple of her friends from another forum asked me to do just that.
