Man, I have really, really enjoyed (loved?) so much of the SuperJoe and Atomic Apemen that White Elephant Toyz has released in recent years.
As I write this post, they are now having a sale, and I just bought a Gargon (despite thinking as a kid in the '70s that the aesthetic of Gor: King of the Terrons didn't really match the rest of the line) and a two-pack of the red suit (white guy) Mission Specialist and the green suit (black man) Science Officer.
I am so appreciative that White Elephant Toys has remade these Super Joe figures. I really liked the Super Joe Commander as a kid (and even more so the preceding GI Joe Adventure Team line), in that transitional moment (along with Micronauts) as the Star Wars Tidal Wave was cresting. Back then, I was intermittently interested in something different/alternative/ extra to Star Wars, and, while Micronauts was my favorite alternative, Super Joe was a sentimental additional choice (despite the lack of flocking). That said, while I had a Super Joe Commander (in the black suit with the laser blaster vest) as a child, I don't have any memory of the Mission Specialist or Science Officer, or the various Super Joe outfit/equipment sets. White Elephant Toyz has expanded my familiarity with the vintage line, while simultaneously enabling me to explore a 'What If' scenario, where more their more posable 9" Big Jim-style figures interact with their knock-off Apes, and even some modern Mego PotA figures.
$100 is real money in the current day. I expect that we are all making our own individual economic/spending choices in every aspect of our lives, probably a little more carefully now than before. But I am thrilled to have made this purchase. (And, I should add, I have absolutely no affiliation with White Elephant Toyz and have never even met anyone associated with them. I'm just a very satisfied repeat purchaser with no platform to otherwise plug these figures..)
