    NECA goes...Mego?!

The people at NECA at this year's Comic-Con have come up with some new Mego-like cloth figures. These consist of...

    3 Batman (including 1966)

2 Superman (including one supposedly looking like Christopher Reeve)

The Michelle Pfeiffer Catwoman which is available now (meow!) along with the Michael Keaton Batman and Danny DeVito Penguin

And a Green Lantern where you can switch between Hal Jordan or John Stewart...or maybe a choice of between Misters Jordan and Stewart.

Many come with little accessories like the Battery of Power and a power ring effect on the GL or a Batarang and communicator in the Adam West figure.

Some of the figures announced save the Keaton/Pfeiffer/DeVito trio are prototypes and not final results.

Some pictures can be found at Toyark.

I hate to be a Negative Nancy, but I don't like the looks of most of these. NECA is just reusing sculpts from previous releases and enlarging them. The comic Superman, Batman and Green Lanterns were created for 7" two packs with the heroes vs. Aliens and Predators. The sculpting on those all plastic figures were hyper-stylized and overly muscular, kind of like modern Total Justice figures. The big jutting jaws don't seem to jibe with the smooth cloth Mego aesthetic. Adam West and Christopher Reeve are reuses from the 7" and 18" figures NECA initially released nearly a decade ago. The West cowl is way too loose around his neck, and the Reeve sculpt looks very bland and outdated compared to a more modern offerings.

I should be really excited for these, but there's just something off about each of them that makes me pause. Maybe the final figures will work better.

Neca is in every Wallmart store. They grabbed the 8 inch line.

Seems like lots of Co`s want that 8 inch cloth line. Very cut throat business.

I agree with E2 Chris. Some look good..as models. To me the charm of Mego was that they looked good, but also looked like toys. I know we all buy now for display, but that nostalgic hook is that Megos were the toys of our youth. These new figures look like Bowen Design statues, which breaks the spell for me. Probably cost as much as three Megos too. Here's to customization.

Yes, these are not toys; these are statues. I like to play with my toys!

I have a couple of the cloth retro Neca 8" figures and there basically an 8" action figure with cloth covering. . I had a 8" Neca Snake Pilskin that broke and had glue stains on it right out of package . I returned it to BBTS for refund. Beast Kingdom 8" DC action figures of 89 Batman , Catwoman , Superman , Batman (blue/grey) are also at Walmart right next to Neca
