NECA Mummy At Ross, 5 Weeks Before Halloween

Today I stopped by a Ross that I happened to be passing because I'd recently watched a few 'toy hunt' videos on You Tube showing some stocks there of the REMCO-inspired, retro packaged, NECA Universal Monsters in glow-in-the-dark versions. I'd never found any toy at Ross I'd ever wanted to buy until a few weeks ago, when I found the WGSH 50th Anniversary Mego Penguin at the Ross nearest my house. (I don't think I'd been in a Ross for a few years before that.)

And I found the Mummy and bought it! $12 is not a mind-bending discount off the $20 original retail price. But a couple of years ago, I'd bought the Frankenstein's monster from this line on sale at Target. So I thought the two together might make a good Halloween shelf display this year, in just a few weeks. So the timing seemed fortuitous as well. (That is, if they really glow-in-the-dark for more than a minute or two...)

Because the cardstock NECA used is so thick, this Mummy looks Mint-On-Card to me. But since I am not an in-box collector, it will be coming off the card shortly.

A preliminary, minimalist bookshelf display, pre-Halloween, intended merely to show anyone interested what these two figures look like when displayed (and for me to enjoy displayed for tonight).

While they are same sculpt as the NECA Universal Monsters original figures (which I also have), the paint on these glow-in-the-dark versions obscures some of the detail (in some instances because it's heavier, and in other instances because the paint-work is less detailed). These figures also have black circles around their eyes (which I assume is to mimic the REMCO originals?)

Short on time today, I put them in direct sunlight for, literally, one minute to get an idea of what the glow-in-the-dark feature is like. The Franskenstien's monster's face and hands glow, and well, but not his clothes. The Mummy, I think I need to put him in the sun (or under a lamp) for a longer time because he looked like there were 'splotches' of glowing paint applied on a few random areas of his body, but not everywhere, and he didn't glow as brightly as the Frankenstein's monster figure.
