Retro-Action DC ~ Which ones are worthy of being "Megos"?

I know that Mattel and this line have received a lot of criticism, but at least some of these guys have got to be worth of being considered honorary "Megos", right?

Personally I am happy to finally have a Flash and Green Lantern to add to the DC side of things. Martian Manhunter, Captain Cold and Two-Face are also welcome additions here in my collection.

Which of the Mattel Retros managed to make the cut for you to be considered worth successors of the Mego line?

I think they did a nice job on most of them. Cheetah and Guy in particular.

I had a number of them that I thought were well done. Like Scott I was part of a small group that thought they nailed Guy Gardner. Sinestro was another that was high on my list. I probably would have been higher on Martian Manhunter if Hasbro hadn't done one so recently. While I wasn't a fan of the padded suit, I thought Darkseid was pretty good too. John Stewart and Kyle were 2 I thought they blew. Hal was good and so was Flash. I would have preferred more comic accurate sculpts on Superman and Shazam. The Black Adam sculpt left me wanting more too. Captain Cold and Cheetah came out good, but I wasn't a huge fan of Wonder Woman. I think I keep comparing WW, Aquaman, and GA to their Mego counterparts, so I'm probably a little biased. Plus having known from the start that the original release for GA was supposed to be a 2 pack with Black Canary, then Matty backing out, was a let down from the beginning. Overall I put these right along side FTC's first releases. They're OK but have less than OK bodies. I'll always wonder where the Mattel line would have gone with better quality bodies and bigger distribution. Mattel filled in some major holes that Mego left. GL, Flash, and Martian Manhunter mostly. FTC looks to be adding a couple more. The benefit of only collecting loose figures is I can rip em open and swap the bodies.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

I liked Luthor, Sinestro, Two Face, Captain Cold, cheetah, guy, Martian Manhunter, green Arrow, batman, Aquaman, Flash.

Superman, GL, Wonder Woman, captain Marvel, Black Adam, Daerksied left something to be desired.

But I have my complaints about the original mego figures, too.

I gave about six of them to my 5 and 3 year old for Christmas this last year. They love them.

I have a thing about accuracy or a need for details and keeping things straight. I think of Megos as the stuff made by Mageo corp, I think of the Mattel line as Retro Action, the old Famous Covers line as Famous Covers and the new FTC stuff as just that, FTC figures. It kind of even ruffles my feathers some when FTC refers to their own figures as 'Retro Action.' But I know I am not like everyone else in this sense, technically speaking... all posable 8" hero figures with clothing should be considered under the same catagory and Mego has become a somewhat synonymous to the catagory that was started by that company. All this stuff is "ReMego" or the "new" Megos I suppose.
My posts were needlessly deleted ...

Bodies aside, they all deserve to be called "Megos". Their retro design, their packaging, style, scale, etc all evoke Mego.

I'm sure for the majority here it's simply a matter of taste whether they like something or not or feel it "deserves" to be called Mego. I'm sure there are original Mego toys that wouldn't pass the same set of criteria we're putting the Matty ones under.

I'm delighted to have new "versions" of classics, and figures we never got before.

I'm also in the minority that loved the fact that they did a line-up of Green Lantern figures and I really think Guy Gardner is tops as well. Between his Kevin Maguire-like expression and all the individual and unique accessories he got. Great choice in my book and great figure.

Two Face and Captain Cold feel the most Mego-y to me.

^Yes. I think Two-Face is my favorite in the line. He looks like Mego would have done him had they come back to a DC wave after the FF, Thor and Conan.

I like all of them. I think Aquaman's face sculpt is a bit TOO beholden to Mego, but like his updated outfit.

I love the outfits on pretty much all of them however the head/face sculpts on some are just a bit "off" to me. Not to say that the originals were perfect in that way by any means (Yes Captain America, I am looking at you.. ) but those figures also offer me the chance for a fairly complete "custom" figure with little more than a head swap so I am not going to complain too much about them.

As to Wonder Woman, has anyone here tried merging the Mego and Retro figures to attempt to get the best of both? What I am considering is putting the Mego WW head onto the Mattel body and then using the Mattel's Tiara on the modified figure to help fix the Mego WW's giant forehead issues.

Something like this: (please forgive my quick and dirty Photoshop...)

Mattel Retro Actions had colorful outfits but cheesy head sculpts and probably the worst Mego Like bodies ever...
My hopes are all on FTC... So far they have just reproduced the same head sculpts of Mego DC WGSH but their renditions of Alfred Pennyworth, Comissioner Gordon and the TV Batman figures are all very promissing and demonstrate what they can do for new DC heroes...

Body issues aside, I loved them all. I thought Mattel did a great job(with Doc Mego's help) of bringing the look and feel of classic Mego back and it's a shame that they did not back it enough for the line to go further. still I am happy to add all of them to my Mego line up

love the look of the line, I really need to transplant them so they pose. Unfortunately it looks like the Castaway body won't work too well.

I like(and own)...Sinestro, Lex Luthor, Twoface, Aquaman, Green Arrow...that's it. I like the head sculpt on GL Kyle, but don't own one yet. The Flash was the absolute WORST of the bunch. Batman was pretty bad too.
