    TOS merchandising in recent years

There seems to have been the usual amount of TOS merchandising in the past couple of years, between DST releases and BBP stuff. I've seen Hallmark Ornaments and bobble heads, Diamond Select figure, replica props/toys, comics, talking tribbles, banks etc etc.

This would seem to be mostly just rattling the cages of TOS fans. One would think the benefit from the new films would be the renewed interested in TOS.

it felt like the EMCE retros were slowly winding down anyways weren't they? With all the "key" missing characters completed, and most of the line repro-ed.

I always thought EMCE's Trek line could have continued for a good while. With characters like Sarek, Kang, Kor, Amanda, and many others, it could have had several more waves. Kirk in his green shirt, McCoy in medical scrubs, Spock in an environmental suit, etc., could have kept the original cast in the mix.

    Also a damn shame ST:TNG didn't continue.

I'll take Shatner every time. I have no use for the rebooted Trek, Chris Pine or JJ Abrams. So... this is probably why DST wouldn't release Vina and Chapel.

I got Kang, Kor, Female Romulan, Janice Rand, Orion Slave Girl, Talosian, Gary Mitchell, Mudd, Ruk, Trelane, Adonais, Sarek, The Pig Aliens, Bele/Lo and Yarnek.

That would be complete to me. Bit I think the Playmates line took a lot of juice out of 8/9 inch scale.

Over on Mego Mania on Facebook, Doc pointed this out... a custom Sulu that was part of a set of 7 figures presented to JJ Abrams

Figures from A Piece of the Action would have been nice. Tell me you wouldn't want Mego sized Tommy guns?

Why would they make 2 tng figures without interest in the entire crew. It's silly really if you think about it.Plus, why bother to make a borg then. It almost seems as if the folks making these decisions aren't even fans. I bet if they put out a set of four in their first season costumes of picard, riker, data and worf we would have gotten a second wave of geordi, crusher, troi and a ferengi.

I for one wanted way more crew and aliens from TOS. I would also have kept getting TNG figures if they kept them 2 at a time 2 or 3 times a year.
Shame really, all the lines i like and would support just don't keep going.

How is it silly? They did it with Mirror,Mirror. I was thinking of the sales they would be making off of customizers who would buy the tommy guns for other projects.

Well my theory about the Borg is that the head would eventually be used for a Data. Take a close look at the EMCE Borg--it's a dead ringer for Brent Spiner, and it even has his little smirk. Take the artificial eye off and it's a Data headsculpt. I have to say though that I'm pretty shocked we didn't get most of the TNG crew at least--I would have thought there would be huge interest in Worf, Riker and Data to go with Picard. Maybe the Playmates 9" series really did satisfy collectors' cravings for Mego-style Trek, but man, those Playmates bodies are horrid. Lots of great headsculpts though. The Playmates 9" Uhura is a work of art compared to the frankly awful Mego version.

Since DST has been talking about reviving this line, I wonder if the focus would shift to TNG? Or at least a mix between it and TOS. And I wonder if they can get away with a continuation without re-releases? People who have these would buy a Nurse Chapel, but those that cannot easily go back and get the rest of the crew, might opt out. While some are tough to get, Kirk, is not, and he still has to be an anchor. I would love if they ventured into the original Star Trek movies. Admiral Kirk! That keeps the TOS characters in use without bad variants. But they can still do TOS variants, like green shirt Kirk and re-release Khan in his gold shirt. They could even do a Cheron in white & black (instead of the released black & white), and maybe a new head for the Klingon, Romulan and Andorian, paired with short sleeves McCoy, Nurse Chapel, etc. I don't know if a generic red shirt crew member would sell, but that's an option too.

I would buy any and every TOS release in Mego style tgat EMCEE wants to produce. Im new to the ReMego movement and missed out on all their releases. I have purchased the vintage first series of TOS figures plus an Enterprise. So ,aside from a few, my attention will be shifting to the EMCEE figures now. A number of TOS movie series would be great to see. And, of course, the Vina, Chapel, and Rand. Not to mention the various aliens from TOS episodes that never got made. I'll also take a few TNG figures to compliment them. While I'm here, if you could indulge a noob , can someone explain the prices on some of these ReMegos? Namely the Romulan,Sulu, Gorn....I'm holding out hope for the rumored Pike/Salt Vampire re releases. But were any of these produced in more limited numbers or is it strictly demand that drove the prices up on those particular pieces?

I would be all in for more of Kirk's crew or aliens from the series or movies. I want everything Playmates did for all the various incarnations in mego size and more. The Trelane, Chapel, Uhura, Bele the Cheron, Marlena Moreau, & Talosian sculpts were incredible! As many others have stated before:
Pike needs his Orion Slave Girl & Talosians,
                            McCoy needs his Chapel,
our Klingon and Romulan troops need Female Klingons, Romulans, & their Commanders,
Spock needs the Horta & his parents(he won't tell you though),
Mirror Spock needs his Mirror Kyle,
Kirk needs his Harry Mudd, Finnegan, Adonais, Trelane, Tellarites, Marlena Moreau, & correct Mugato(like playmates 12" version),
Chapel needs her Ruk, Corby, & Andrea(ok Andrea is really for me),
Scotty needs an assortment of Scottish lasses and lots of ale

Don't get me started on ST:TNG, 7 of 9, and Movie Ilia, Kruge, Khan, Saavik, Valeris, Chang, etc. We will be here all day.
