No need to panic just yet.
Even if certain characters don't make the cut, BBP can still continue the line with other more popular ones.

I'm not really surprised though. I love this line, but had serious doubts about buying most of the new ones announced (like Anti-Man).

If I were BBP, I'd strike back with a "no-brainer" next wave, with four super popular characters like two Doctors and two classic villains, perhaps a Silurian or Sea Devil and an Ice Warrior.

Toy companies have it rough. Do you front-load the first few series with headliners, and therefor take the chance on making future waves harder to market, or do you space out the main characters, and insert a lot of peg-warming fodder to keep the line viable in the long run?

Personally, I'd go for broke and put the best stuff out first, and hope that the profits make more obscure characters possible later on down the line, but that's me having no real business sense, either.

        IMO, yes

You have to put your best face on right off the bat because the market has a very short attention span.

Mass Cancellations! Armageddon is near! As of right now, the only 8-inch figures for Doctor Who that were up for pre-order that have been cancelled are Li H'Sen Chang and Mr. Sin. Not enough pre-orders. These have been available for pre-order for a very, very long time. We promoted them, pitched them hard, and gave our retailing partners a key date. If sales weren't reached by that date, these would be cancelled.

The glassware cancellations are not related to this cancellation - different situations all together. Our company is fine. This is how we make a living. Just because a few items are cancelled - or even "MASS" cancellations, as this thread incorrectly states, it's not a trend, pattern or anything else.

Will there be more cancellations? Yes. Will there be new products announced and eventually cancelled? Yes. Will a ton of other items get made? You bet. Again, this is how we make a living. Our job is to make great products and pick winners. We admit when our products aren't that great and try to fix them. We admit when the character selection isn't that great - so we cancel them. We wish every prototype that we put out there could be made (quickly) and sold (quickly). Blame us for not selecting better, or marketing better - but in the end, these are business decisions based on all of the facts, and we move on.

The biggest thing? We thank you for supporting us through these hills and valleys! We love our customers who actively support us and "nudge" us to do better.

Thank you Jason Lobsterwitz for the update. If we get most of these guys, I'd happily make enemies and companions for them out of toilet paper rolls. I could happily retire to my bunker if I had a case of Pertwees.

Me too and hope there maybe a Jon Pertwee somewhere down the line and some cool villains, like Ice Warriors and Silurians as Rik said.

I hear you on that... I've been wanting a figure of the 10th doctor for a while now. He's a definitive must have for us collectors.

Thanks for the clarification! I was hoping it was just those figures, but it was kind of hard to tell as the retailer had said "most" of the solicited figures had been cancelled! Glad to hear it was just normal product shuffles. I think we've kind of known that those two figures were not happening as a set since SDCC. right? Or maybe we thought Mr. Sin was still coming? Either way, nice to have the clarification.

I tried to change the topic title, but it seems a moderator has to do that.

I have Dr #4 and #1. Eagerly waiting for #11.

I'm hoping to get one of each Doctor as the figures roll out. Now that I have a Sontaron, I'll definitely get a Dalek and Cyberman. I'm also hoping to see the Weeping Angels and Silence make an appearance! An Ood would be great to since they have made several appearances in the new Dr Who!

The one I'm most eager to get now though is the 10th Doctor, Tennant! I saw a picture from one of the trade shows and now I REALLY want to get one.

I also plan on getting the Tardis with K-9. I'd love to get a redone Tardis with new interior shots, maybe with a capsule with the Doctor's hand instead of K-9. hehehe

I am sad to see the two figures get cancelled, but BBP surprised us and got the Android Sister out somehow, so maybe we'll se them some day.

A deluxe box set with Tom in Sherlock outfit, Jago, Litefoot, Chiang, Mr. Sin and Greel with a cardboard fold-up Time Cabinet would be amazing! I wonder if a presentation like that might appeal more to collectors, even if it was more expensive.

Seeing as Talons is one of my Favorite stories i really wanted those 2 figures. Even the others announced like Anti-man , But those were more aliens and no Doctors and Companions. Plus I just really can't stand having to pre-order anything and see if enough others are going to join me so i can get them. Just put out figures in a way so that it's a No-Brainer they will get bought. I've been saying from the beginning Make the sets Doctor/Enemy and Companion /Enemy and you will do better. Trying to get so many enemy/aliens out with so little Heroes is wearing on me if not on all the Doctor Who fans here.

Thanks Jason! Yep. I think we always have to keep in mind pre-order volumes will always dictate whether a product can be profitable. No one wants to make a product that loses money. So pre-orders are the best indicator as whether companies move forward or not. Fingers and toes crossed on Six Mill and BSG. I hope those volumes are getting close to production levels.

Sad to hear those figures got cancelled. They looked cool. Their outfits were great. If anything Anti man should of been cancelled. He looks boring. All the other figures are awesome though and I hope there will be no more cancellations. I will shed imaginary tears if there are.
